BRIDGETOWN: The West Indies Cricket Board has filed a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council about the quality of umpiring in the recent series in Australia.
The WICB admitted on Saturday that it was an unusual step, but board chief operations officer Zorol Barthley said there were too many questionable calls that needed to be reviewed.
The West Indies lost all three Test matches on the tour.
"We have expressed our concerns to the ICC over the standard of decision making by the umpires in the recently concluded series," a board statement said.
The board also asked the ICC to complete a video assessment of the umpires' decisions.
On Thursday, ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said the sport's governing body was looking at increasing the number of umpires in the "elite panel" from seven to nine or 10. He said the umpires' workload was tremendous.
"The board is aware that the overall standard of umpiring has improved with the introduction of the elite panel ? and for this reason is disappointed that the decision-making during the series appeared to be below the normally high standard expected of the elite panel," the WICB statement said.

At last someone is complaining about the poor standard of umpiring that has been going on lately. Heres hoping the ICC do something.
Increasing the number of umpires could work, as before this elite panel we didn't have that many bad decisions.
