Zimbabwe Suspension situation (BCCI to support ZC)

I’ve just told you what I heard, I don't even know much about Zimbabwe situation. Nor I said I hated any government, I just think it’s stupid that Americans can attack such a nation as Iraq because of nuclear threats, and British helping them. For their own and benefits. While, not much help to Zimbabwe because it’s a case of Human Rights.

I do believe that Iraq’s previous government was also a human rights issue, and a big threat to Americans, but it tells you that if Mugabe isn’t that powerful, it should be easy to get rid of him.

Moving on to the Cricket side of the story, it’s such a idiotic thing that ICC take no action regardless what PCB and especially BCCI do, in making their decisions. It shows you that the governing body has no control whatsoever.

Ofcorse, India can convince Pakistan and Sri Lankan boards because of their “bond” which has been created in recent times.

BTW are Zimbabwe allowed at Olympics this year?

bcci unfortuantely is again showing that it only cares for itself and money more than cricket.

more then human rights? I don't know, i think.

I am loathe to the double standards in play. The BCCI has scarcely an interest in actually playing against Zimbabwe, all they want is a spare vote in their pocket. They say politics and sport should not mix, but how can anyone believe that they actually think that? I would hope that the members show some testicular fortitude and make their own decision, rather than simply supporting someone else's interests.

You truly are a naive person aren't you? You clearly have a very small grasp of politics. The USA attacked Iraq because they wanted oil, and the fact that they were harbouring a terrorist. Zimbabwe have no natural resources for the USA to gain from, nor do they have someone who is of threat to the rest of the world. They stay out of it because their hands are full with things that already concern them. Very rarely do politics and the right thing to do mix.

Well they're going to argue now that they have the "credentials". Can domestic sides also argue they have credentials, in return for a vote on the ICC? Seriously, there are a few with better records over the last 5 years.

I find it worrying how this vote keeps being delayed, shows how hotly debated this has been.

Poor decision IMO.

Zimbabwe in T20 are not such a bad force, having upset the Australians in 2007.

I really feel for the team, because this is all political, and has nothing to do with what their team has done (The players I mean, not the Cricket Board)

This is no surprise to me, I keep hearing, "politics and sports don't mix", and I keep saying right here that it is a lot of politics that is involved, and this is proof in my mind.

WestIndian added 3 Minutes and 24 Seconds later...

Well I have always said it was all politics, favors being asked and being made, they must be pleased in some way, because they will still receive their fees, and with all the 20/20 taking place these days, they might just get an invitation to some other event, somewhere else, so they lose nothing.

Off topic, I don't know why the allusion to Ray Mali being of African descent excluded him from being racist was made. Although I do not agree with the labeling made by the ZCU, it should be understood that being of a certain race does not exclude you from racially discriminating against the same race.

On topic, I think it is pretty unfortunate that the BCCI is not supporting the move to remove ZCU's full member status. However, it is important to understand that there are many underlying issues at play. It would be unfair to the players who want to play cricket to be banned from playing internationally just because of their country's idiotic leader. Furthermore, the BCCI regularly uses its financial muscle to help the smaller countries out (I know they've done it with West Indies and Bangladesh).

It is a difficult decision and I can understand the BCCI's position, but I hope the other countries vote independently of the BCCI decision.

Yes it is unfair for the players, but the fact is that the politics here are more important than cricket. Mugabe is murdering thousands of innocent people, his own people, and countries can not be associated with a corrupt cricket board that's being controlled by a corrupt government. India does not care for Zimbabwe much but still votes for it, and with what's going on in cricket right now, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Zimbabweans bought their vote.

The obvious solution is to boycott Zimbabwe, as was done to the South Africans a couple of decades back. It will be impossible to achieve agreement across a number of nations spread out all over the world, each with their own priorities and agendas. To expect such a directive to succeed would be naive.

It is highly unlikely, in my opinion, that the Zimbabweans bought India's vote. Not only are they not a particularly rich (cricketing) nation, but I cannot see why the BCCI would need any more financial assistance.

I don't really believe it, but I just wouldn't be surprised.

As for boycotting, I think it would work alright. India has no interest in playing Zimbabwe anyway, it's not worth much money, but if SA, Australia, England and NZ all boycott them, India aren't interested then they're left with a very small pool of nations playing very short tours with them. Either way, I'd be happy for Australia to be the only ones, if we must be one of the few to take the moral high ground.

There are more important things than sport.
