1: Ricky Ponting of Australia has achieved this feat on three occasions as captain. First against West Indies at Brisbane in November 2005, then against South Africa at Sydney just two months later in January 2006 and for the third time also against South Africa in Durban in the month of March that very year.

3: There have been many players who have scored centuries and taken 5-wicket hauls in their Test careers. The most notable is Ian Botham who scored 14 centuries and took 27 five-wicket hauls in his Test career. 1: Irfan Pathan got a hat-trick against Pakistan at Karachi in 2006 when he dismissed Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf off the 4th, 5th and last ball of the first over of that match. This was the only instance of a bowler getting a hat-trick in the first over of a Test match. Despite Pathan's effort, India still went on to lose by a huge margin of 341 runs.
