Is Shivnarine Chanderpaul selfish?

That's utter nonsense from KP. He shouldn't have used SELFISH for such a good batsman and a veteran who is the main batting stay for his team. Show some respect to Seniors players KP. Don't be a noob like Aussie_ben.

Pietersen is a huge idiot for even saying that. I guess that jealousy got the best of him. Dude cant even compare to Shiv at this moment or from the start of his career for that matter. Shiv had to face legends of the sport, Wasim and Waqar, Pollock, Donald and Ntini, Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, Murli and Vaas(in his prime), Flintoff, Hoggard and Harmison, Kumble all in their prime. And look at what KP bats against.
If KP or Ben actually payed attention or even watched Shiv bat once they would realize that he plays for the team. Over the last 4 years since Lara retired he was coming in with his team 3-4 wickets down for not that many runs and scoring his centuries with tailenders. Often bringing them up with the 9th or 10th man at the other side of the pitch. I wonder if KP would come out straight away if he batted for 4-5 hours every innings with a whole lot of injuries. I am sorry but this is like a rookie talking crap about a legend.

As for Bens comments, I have given up trying to reason with this dude, not going to get anywhere with it. Once again it is a case of him making claims about a guy he barely watched in his life. People say Lee was the leading wicket taker and then you go on and try to make an excuse, then the say Clark got this many wickets at a low average and another excuse. And than the great Mitchell Johnson the GOAT according to you was "struggling" no he was out played, made to look like a rookie by a legend. Watch and learn, might actually know something about the players you are comenting on.

Try and be careful on differentiating between debating against someone's opinion and personally attacking them. The former is acceptable, the latter is most definitely not.

I think it was a foolish thing for KP to say, rarely have I seen intimidating an opposition player work. That said, Dare, I have to disagree about you saying that KP can't even compare to Shiv, two very good players, but quite different. As for the bowlers they've faced, well KP has played against 9 of them (I'll give you 8 as Gillespie wasn't on form in Ashes 05). To say that affects his talent is a poor piece of judgement.

KP does talk a lot of balderdash imo, cringe whenever I hear "..and hear our interview with England Batsman Kevin Pietersen".

KP is one to talk about selfish after his selfishness and Strauss's stupidity basically cost England the test series when he insisted on getting to his hundred before allowing his captain to declare, and Strauss being the idiot is he obliged.

Shiv > KP any day.

KP does his talking like he does his batting. He says things before thinking, same thing with some of his shots. He does have alot of crap written about him in the press though. I remember reading a story on some spurious Australian forum which was just a few bitter Aussies sat about slagging him off. Anyway, there was an article on this forum from a ludicrous news story, sold to the press by Big Brother entrant, Vanessa Nimmo, who had a relationship with KP, which made him out to be an utter tool. Was just full of complete crap that was clearly made up.

I'm guessing from the reaction from Gayle that this isn't a fabrication though, and I'm sure he'll apoligise at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. As it's clearly a pretty idiotic thing to say, I still think he said it in jest though, jest doesn't really work when written down though.

Well there are some positives about KP and some negatives. This really falls under the latter, and shows after all, that he is only human.

But then you would not expect someone to say something just for the sake of it. Maybe there is some truth? Nevertheless, should keep it to yourself.

As WI fan, I can't say I have seen chanderpaul skipping his fielding duties. It's a total lie for KP to say that, recently Tony cozier has been calling shiv the old man in the team because he is always there just trolling along like a true legend. He is one of the best safest hands in the WI, he dives, and covers the boundary well. KP is lying about shiv.

As batsman they can compare as people its not even close. We will see where KP ends his career but at this moment Shiv is ahead of him.
I could kind of understand it if Shiv had a dig at KP before and KP retaliated but to say something like that about a guy who didn't even mention KP for the entire tour is as low as you can get. I could also understand it if it was India vs Australia (because of the relations between the two teams) but WI vs England, would have never expected it. Good thing this guy is not the captain, he is nowhere near captain material.

I hope Ben has checked cricinfo before claiming KP is a better player than Shiv

Let's see how he reacts to this stat:
Last 12 Months

Shiv's test average: 95.18
KP's test average: 55.33

ODI's

Shiv's average: 91
KP's average: 40.38

---------------------------------------------

What you havent said in any of your posts is how KP averages better than Chanderpaul in every international aspect.

Not going to get into the whole KP vs Chiv debate, it doesn't really matter who I think is better.

I'm a huge fan of Chiv though, fantastic batsman really enjoy watching him bat. Selfish? No. Pietersen rattled? Perhaps, almost certainly not the sort of thing he (KP) should be saying.

You're right, I don't like KP's attitude, why would he say something about Shiv? I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Shiv. One of the most respected cricketers in the world.

Pietersen destroyed the best bowling attack of the past 15 years with ease whilst Chanderpaul was a sitting duck against McGrath & Warne.

Chanderpaul's average against Australia was beefed up from the last series where he faced a deteriating Brett Lee, out of form Mitchell Johnson & Stuart Clark, Stuart MacGil when his body was able to collaspe on him and a joke of a selection - Beau Casson. Chanderpaul averaged only 34 against Australia before McGrath & Warne retired.

Pietersen > Daylight > Chanderpaul

And were they really at their best, when KP so called "destroyed" them? Nah man, we will go with Shiv over KP any day. I think though we cannot really and adequately compare these two batsmen. They are completely 2 different styles altogether. Lack of comparison for sure if you ask me.

Pietersen will never even be half as classy as Andrew Strauss. What an illiterate ****wit. The man can barely string a sentence together, never mind giving an eloquent interview. The dressing room is as close as KP is going to get to genuine grace and class, i.e. Strauss.

That was perhaps a bit extreme, but seriously have you ever seen him go 10 seconds in an interview without talking about 'positive cricket' or some other tripe?

Despite the fact that Pietersen has decimated South Africa every single time that his played them?

Pietersen averaged over 50 against McGrath & Warne compared to Chanderpaul's 34.

Shiv has been around since the mid-90s when Warnie and McGrath were at their peak whereas when KP burst into the scene in the 2005 Ashes, both the legends were nearing the end of their respective careers.
Chanderpaul would have played a lot more games against Warne and McGrath than KP who has just played 2 test series against the Australians.

Nearing the end of their careers? Shane Warne was at his absolute peak during the 2005 Ashes series and in KP's first-ever Test innings, Glenn McGrath was in the middle of arguably his greatest ever spell of bowling. KP faced Warne & McGrath when they were as good as ever. Don't be fooled because they retired not long after.
