Watson as test opener?

Jaques and Katich passed in WI so they are the incumbents and Rogers by rights shouldnt force his way in unless he is clearly a class above, injury or poor form by one or the other.

Just read an article that says Tim Nielsen thinks Watson can make it as a Test opener. After what I saw with Watson opening for Queensland all I can see is a lot of ducks on the screen. Apart from Katich being in career best for and the man most likely to take Hayden spot once he retires, we also have some very good openers coming through in Phil Hughes and Steven Smith. So between those 3 and probably some other openers I've missed we are more than covered.

Here is the article Watson can make it as Test opener: Nielsen - Cricket - Sport - smh.com.au

Hang on, isn't Smith meant to be your star all-round spin bowler? :p Is he going to be the next Tendulkar?

Hell no! We have plenty of better options right now, Chris Rogers, Brad Hodge could come out of retirement for a bit.. Watson is nowhere near test standard right now. He scored a lot of ducks in 2007/08, don't forget about that!

Forget Hughes and Warner, I want to see Steven Smith AKA Matthew Warne play :p Sounds like a useful cricketer.

Yeah, judging by his FC bowling record he seems like one heck of a bowler. The higher the bowling average, the better the bowler right?

That and how much turn you get. If you're bowling long-hops but they're spinning a mile that's fine.

:laugh Awesome. Scores of 5, 0, 15 and 1 in games nowhere near FC level. I'd be thinking of binning Katich and Watson and getting Warner and Smith in to open in Tests tbh.
