Well, I think this incident alone deserves a thread to name and shame Randiv.

India needed 1 run to win in today's ODI against Sri Lanka. Sehwag was the batsman on 99*. I am going to quote Cricinfo :

"Chris Harris in the studio has no doubt it was a deliberate no-ball. Well it didn't look accidental. That back foot was where his front foot usually is

34.4 Randiv to Sehwag, 1 no ball, match is over, but Sehwag has been denied the century. And this is a big no-ball, must I point out? His back foot was close to over-steeping, forget about the front foot. Anyway Sehwag smashed it for six over long-off, but they don't count because the game finishes at no-ball. He raises his arms, but then realises the century is not completed. Doesn't matter to him. He says: "It often happens. When a batsman is on 99 and the scores are level, bowlers try to bowl no-balls and wides. It happens in cricket. Fair enough." What a man "

If I could I would've posted a screenshot, it was a ridiculous no-ball. Is there any place or need for this ?

On a separate note, what are the worst pieces of sportsmanship you've seen in cricket ?

EDIT: Apologies for suggesting this IS the worst in cricket, just that I wanted to discuss examples of bad sportsmanship in cricket as well as this particular incident. Heh, okay the underarm incident is bad...but that was rightfully condemned. I think as an act in itself this is just as cynical.

EDIT 2: Yes, this match wasn't of huge consequence like the underarm incident. I'm even not bothered about a 100 not being shown on Sehwag's stats. It's just that I value the spirit of cricket , and this is completely against it. The bowler had nothing to gain from this.

Happens all the time. You wouldn't be complaining if Sehwag was on anything below 94.

I have lost all love for Sri Lanka after this match. :facepalm

Its right up there with the underarm ball..:p

There is no If mate. Sehwag was on 99,and the no-ball was deliberate. :( And that too we Indians did not expect such a thing from Sri Lanka. We treated Sri Lanka as our second home. :facepalm

Don't over react, as Sehwag himself said, it happens not a big deal he will soon get it covered..

Its little disgraceful though, not worst, part of the game..

What's more? They counted the no ball in Sehwag balls faced but not the runs. What's the point in adding no ball to Sehwag balls faced count if the match was finished before Sehwag faced it?

How quickly did you get this one going. If the guy that this happened to isn't complaining then why are you?

Well then that would have been impossible for him to get a ton whereas here it was possible and you got to agree it was one piece of ridiculous sportsmanship. It's not complaining but, a discussion about a real shameful act.

That needs to be sorted out, because at the moment that rule makes absolutely no sense.

Adarsh added 1 Minutes and 6 Seconds later...

Hey, I applaud Sehwag for being a man and taking it on a chin. Says a lot about him. That doesn't mean to say that this sort of behaviour should be encouraged. How else are you going to prevent this happening in the future if you don't bring this up as an issue ?

Anyways a better question would be this

A technical question to MCC, though. The ball is counted as one faced by Sehwag. Why so, when the match was over even before it was played and especially when the runs scored are not granted to Sehwag? Dhruv: " If the game finishes with the no-ball, then the ball should not counts towards Sehwag's balls-played, because the game was won before Sehwag played it. But, if you count the ball for Sehwag's balls played, then his Six must also be considered."

Chris Harris in the studio has no doubt it was a deliberate no-ball. Well it didn't look accidental. That back foot was where his front foot usually is. Kunjan Patel: "Sehwag says..."fair enough"..As long as he puts the ball back where it deserves..he's a HAPPY MAN, 100 or not! What a man! ;)"

THIS is what you call sports man spirit! :hpraise :hpraise

Also, someone mentioned the underarm incident. I agree that it was disgraceful too, but at least you can understand why it was done, because the bowler had something to gain. If this is not sheer petulance then what is it ?

Yeah okay, it wasn't the best piece of sportsmanship but you are honestly making a meal out of it because Sehwag was close to getting a 100. As I said before if he hadn't even been close we wouldn't have this thread. The only reason we have this thread is because he was close to a 100 and the guy overstepped.

It happens all the time, wides, byes no-balls. Yeah, okay it might not be fair, but when has sport ever been fair? What do you wanna do in the middle of a game, sit down and have a cup of tea with your opposite number? No that's just complete rubbish, you want to beat the other team hands down.

Even Sehwag said it happens all the time. You really are making a 5 course meal out of this.
