ICC Test World Cup in 2013?

Maybe they can allot points for all test matches up until a particular date, and then decide the top two teams who will then play the '3 test match series' at a particular assigned country (for e.g. England hosts it in 2013, Australia hosts it in 2015, etc). If it happens to be home for one of the teams, then they are lucky. It will be the 'World Championship series'.

^ That is a nice suggestion but i would like 4 top teams playing.. That would create amazing atmosphere. Each team should play 2 matches against other and one match should be home and other should be away.
Imagine India,Australia,England and South Africa playing a series on 4 venues. Lords,Perth,Eden Garden and Centurion. Different conditions, different weather.:banana2
It is just 12 matches for the league stage and 15 matches over all. we can play 2 matches at a time so we can finish it in 2 or 2 1/2 months... I dont care if it takes even 3 months. Those who complain that it is not economically feasible, the series of this class would generate enormous hype and would create enough interest for full stadiums. Even drawn matches would be important for the team, each run to make it to the semis... I would take such a series over T20 WC any day.;)

Tell that to the golfers.

Marky Marky Pawned Pawned :p:laugh

Yeah, I do not see any reason as to why can't we ply 4 Tests on the same day.
Different time zones

Australia
India
England
West Indies
These four countries can have games starting on the same day,. That way, the ICC wont waste time too

I would actually love to see 4 tests matches start on the same day/within a week or so of each other, with a long break in between them. Builds up anticipation for each match, and the period of time for that week or so within which the games are being played will be quite exciting.

4 matches in 4 time zones...West Indies, England, Asia, Australia/NZ. Some matches in South Africa too, and maybe hold a few token matches in the USA.

And this would be a great way to introduce new sides into Test Cricket. If there are 2 divisions of 6 sides each, you can have 6 matches running simultaneously in 6 different locations. And you can add in 2 new test nations. 2 out of Ireland/Scotland/Kenya/Canada. Maybe a USA team if you are going to play a few matches there, might gather some interest.

So this way there is no overkill as all matches have meaning. Cricket can still be played all year round (just in different countries...they can be called the 'Asian Leg' or 'European Leg' or 'Oceania Leg'...), and with nice breaks in between to prevent burnout. Only the best players play (since the Top 6 sides are in one division and can't afford to rest key players a lot), I think it's a good idea.

Main problems with playing matches on the same day would be the weather issue and the boards agreeing to play matches in the middle of the off season. Good idea in theory though but hard to see it happening. We certainly could do 3 matches which I think has happened way back when NZ use to have the Boxing day test.

The sheer size of the game (5 days) is not convenient for tournament of any sort.

Well, if there are 10-12 teams competing, we can have 5 matches running at the same time. Then, a 2-3 days rest, and so on.

Seems impractical ? Eh?

I feel everyone should not get the chance to contest in a world test championship. It should be no more than a Top 4 or 5. It will also lead to lesser games and also it would be the best.

Yeha that would be good enogh, We can just wait for it.
As I think, there would be some 8 teams.

umm what the fling...?

lol. and who was the one quoting others for pointless reason:p ...

On topic, only top 6 nations should be there... That way touney can fit in 2 months time at most...

If they do a knockout format with 8 top teams, I feel that would be better than having a World Cup!

If they go for something like this it has to be only the top 4 who are involved. And more it becomes too complicated. Plus if you have everyone playing the thing would drag on for ages which you don't want happening.

Just throwing it out there but maybe they shouldn't be limited to 5 days for such a competition. Perhaps they should be given a week?
