Just heard that Ch 10 is currently/has been in court for some time over the rights to show the 2011 IPL, starting this week. As such there will be no coverage at all in Australia of the IPL. Does anyone have any more details or know anything about this? One HD has no IPL on their tv guide.

Haven't heard anything, but this will be highly annoying if true. Was looking forward to some late night IPL - well at least for a couple of weeks until I got bored of it. Did I mention 6 or 7 weeks and 70 games is ridiculously high??

Had a quick ferret for info, but nothing so far. Hope it's sorted by the weekend :(

The company Ten bought the Australian rights off - World Sport Group - bought worldwide rights in a ten year package back in 2008. But recently the BCCI have tried to terminate this rights deal, and have now sold the international rights it to the Times of India group.

Basically, the WSG are suing the BCCI over the wrongful termination of the contract, saying that the BCCI had no evidence for its claims that it used in terminating it and are claiming they are still the legitimate rightsholders.

For Ten, this means they own rights that currently don't exist - they have a deal with the WSG and not with the Times of India group. So they can't broadcast the IPL because currently the contract is terminated, but no one can buy new rights from the Times of India group because it's uncertain if they should even have those rights.

The local Indian rights owned by Sony are unaffected by all of this and make up the vast majority of the money spent on the rights.

So in short, the BCCI are double dipping on the rights and Australian viewers are stuck in the middle.

CONFIRMED. No IPL or Champions League on Ten this year. Not even close to being sorted out. Both events will not be shown in Australia by anyone as a result.

Dont know, but its not just us, England, NZ, SA, WI all cant get the IPL either. Looks like just Indians can see it.

Yeah that'd be right. Wont be able to see my home state play in the Champions League either is seems :(

Funny how it is available on TV in the USA on multiple channels but not in any cricketing countries...

Dayum, BCCI makes Modi look like a saint now. Where the Lalit haters at?

Dont know, but its not just us, England cant get the IPL either.

Nope, the UK can still get it. Apparently the broadcasters in the UK get it through Nimbus Communications in India and not from an International group so as such will still be shown in the UK. It's still on all the TV Guides and even says it online that they are still broadcasting it.

Not being shown in NZ as yet, still awaiting the result of the court cast according to a friend.

Doesn't really matter seeing as it's shown at stupid times here anyway

You know what would be weird is if the champions league comes to Australia ( which it should be considering it is our turn) then OneHd (ch10) will not be able to broadcast it. That would be the biggest embarrassment for all three boards invloved that it would not even be broadcasted in the nation it is being held in. Of course this is presuming that Ten got the CLT20 rights from WSG. Can anyone confirm this?
