It is the future.

The scary, scary future.

Early September is over.

We are in Harare, because why not?

Scotland and Ireland are playing their first test match to decide once and for all, who is the country that shouldn't care about cricket but is oddly good at it?

Scotland win the crucial toss and get to keep the coin - a valuable contribution to their economy.

Ireland, sent into bat.

Everyone was kinda ready.

It begins...

Good to see paraplegic umpires getting a chance....

I see those alien thingies from War of the Worlds have tickets too....

"Scotland win the toss and keep the coin - a valuable contribution to their economy"

It is the future.

The scary, scary future.

Scary enough to imagine an umpire giving a batsman out with no fingers. Scary enough for a bowler to see plenty of wickets beside a player's name who has not bowled a single ball. Scary enough for a batsman to see the stumps dislodged by the ball that missed it by 23 yards.

The crowd make the same noises they've been making for 5 minutes now, the tension is huge for the first ball.

Dot ball. Barmy gets nothing as usual.

Second ball. Played defensively, the Irish players start running - the fielder and the non-striker both have huge distances to make up, the crowd are on the edge of their seats, except for the ones sitting between two seats.

The final chance, will the batsman be able to make it home safely?

Well no, obviously not. Scotland aren't that bad at this cricket thing,

FOW: 1/0 - Rodgers - Run out (Gray) for 0

Next. Baldwin.

The third ball of the innings is bowled, it goes through to the keeper - but the batsman makes the poor choice to randomly move on the spot.

This proved costly as the bails were removed and the batsman given out.

I think you could call that celebration. Barmy enjoys his second undeserved and confusing wicket.

FOW: 2/0 - Baldwin - Stumped for 0

Fourth ball. Nothing much.

Fifth ball. Played defensively, they set off for a run, a shy at the stumps.

The decision to attempt the runout by deflection off the Wicket Keeper's arse was not a wise one for the Scots.

The throw goes to the boundary following the completion of the Irelanders' first run. Taking the score to 2/5 and giving them crucial runs.

Final ball of the over and it goes without incident.

End of the over, 2/5

The second over was a maiden. So everyone forgot about it and moved on.

Third over.

First ball - the first real attacking shot of the innings is hit straight to cover, they set off for a run,

Will they make it? Will Ireland get its sixth run?

Find out later.

I'll be keeping a keen eye on this one. I think it will be rather entertaining!

Nice. Keep them coming

So yeah, that ball hit the stumps and the batsman stopped a few steps from the crease - I suppose to avoid making the third umpire get up.

FOW: 3/5 - Davies - Run out for 5

The rest of the over went without incident so the footage was immediately burned.

Fourth over. After an uneventful first ball, Russell, the new bowler for Scotland had a moment to ponder the concept of stumps - with the Irish batsmen setting off for a run following them being broken.

After a moment to comprehend things, and after deciding that the other side of the stumps would be a better angle of approach, the other bail was removed and another batsman run out.

FOW: 4/5 - Whitehead - Run Out - 0

This experience with the stumps was enlightening for Russell, with the next ball deciding to aim at the other ones, to success.

The synchronised cheering won the Scotland team some fans in the crowd, who continued to appreciate the contest with a mild murmur.

FOW: 5/5 - Gill - b Russell - 0

The new batsman for Ireland was off to a promising start, having successfully left the ball. But after taking the opportunity to attempt to taunt the Wicket Keeper - he came charging at the batsman, who then set off for a run.

After being told by the fielder at mid-on that they were playing cricket, the Wicket Keeper stopped chasing after the batsman and decided to attempt to hit the stumps instead.

However it was an odd decision to have his hands go through the stumps. Could he live to regret the missed opportunity? Find out next!

PS- Thanks for reading so far everyone - It'd be great if the story section could be active again once we have a good game out.
