Well, we've done brilliantly to get here. Halfway through the tournament, I thought we had all but sealed the wooden spoon. Going into the final, there's a couple of tough decisions to be made.

1. :ire: :wk: :local: Stephen Doheny
2. :ire: :ar: :local: Max Sorenson
3. :pak: :bat: :os: Babar Azam
4. :nzf: :bat: :os: Ross Taylor
5. :eng: :bat: :os: Joe Root
6. :ire: :bat: :local: Greg Thompson
7. :ire: :ar: :local: George Dockrell :c:
8. :nzf: :bwl: :os: Trent Boult
9. :ire: :bwl: :local: Graeme McCarter
10. :nzf: :bwl: :local: Ollie Newton
11. :ire: :bwl: :local: Josh Little

Now, you might think this is radical, but Imam is arguably the best ODI opener in the world, it's about time he scores big. Doheny might seem a surprise, but he averages 40 in T20 cricket and was Ireland A's best batsmen in the T20 series recently. Poynter's been consistently underpar, I'd rather let Doheny go full T20 than watch Poynter fiddle around for a boring 10.

Look at that batting line up, I dare anyone to score more than us. Balbirnie? Bairstow? Rohit Sharma? Oh please, Gary Thompson went from a bowling all rounder option to the best finisher in the league, we've got this (as long as we bat 2nd).

I also understand that this praise can only lead to us being all out for under 200, but I don't care. We're the bloody Mundster Reds or something and we're about to win the league.

Edit: I've rethought and changed again, last time I promise. @Yash.

Sorry mate, @Yash. changed the line up a couple times. This one is final (which is effectively just Doheny in for Poynter)

The Final

Leinster Lightning vs Munster Reds

After 12 games in three different venues, we have finally arrived to the D-Day. The day the champion of Ireland will be decided. We've seen swashbuckling centuries, threatening bowling spells, match changing run outs, impossible seeming catches and innumerable moments during the course of these 12 games. And the two teams which started all this, will be the two teams putting the curtains. Welcome to The Village, Malahide for the Final, to see who'll win the crown of

Test Triangle Inter-Provincial Series Champion

Let's get to Mark Nicholas who is in the middle, inspecting the pitch.

-x-
Thank you Yash. Historically, we have known the Malahide pitch to be a balanced one, leaning ever so slightly towards the batting side.

However, today the scenario might just be different. It has been raining persistently since last night, and the skies have cleared up completely, but there is still some time to the start. The umpires, Richard Kettleborough and Paul Reynolds, along with reserve umpire Mark Hawthorne, were down here a while ago inspecting the pitch and outfield for play.

Due to the rain, the pitch would favor the bowlers a little bit now. The pacers could extract some swing early on in the day. The outfield isn't that fast, so the scoring would be a little difficult. Around 225 would be a par score on this wicket, considering the quality bowlers both the teams have. As far as the toss is concerned, I would say that both the teams should look to bowl first and take maximum advantage of the swing on offer.

Now, over to Niall O'Brien, the former Irish cricketer, who's in the middle with Andy Balbirnie and George Dockrell, along with the match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, for the toss.

-x-

Thanks Mark. It's toss time. Andy, you have the coin... Heads is the call, tails it is.

Andy you've won the toss, what would you like to do?
"We'll bowl first. Looks like a pretty even wicket, but with the conditions around us, I believe we can bowl them out for a small score, and hopefully, win the Series for all our fans."
Any changes to your lineup?
"Nah, we'll be playing the same lineup"

George, how do you feel about losing the toss in the all important finale?
"Well, it is a part of the game, not like any of us have any control over it. It doesn't affect our mindset whatsoever. We came to Malahide with just one focus, to win the IP50 trophy and we're gonna do that. I would've also like to bowl first in these conditions, but nothing to worry."
Any changes to your lineup?
"Yup, Stephen Doheny comes in for Stuart Poynter, and will keep wickets and also open the batting."

So that is the news from the center, Leinster Lightning have won the toss, and elected to bowl first.

-x-

So here are Today's teams...

Leinster have chosen to go with the same team that ensured their qualification in the previous match. Their tried and tested bowling attack consisting of the ever consistent, Barry McCarthy, World's no. 1 test bowler, Pat Cummins, and the phenom himself, Rashid Khan, will surely test the batting lineup of Munster Reds. As far as their batting is concerned, Jonny Bairstow and Rohit Sharma have been really good throughout the tournament, giving good starts to the team, albeit on flatter pitches than this one. But their consistent performer throughout the tournament has been their captain, Andy Balbirnie, striking 5 fifties in six matches, and not to forget their X-Factor, Kevin O'Brien, who did start the tournament with a bang, but has blown cold since.

The Munster Reds have put immense faith in Stephen Doheny, giving him the first match of this season, and that too, the final. He will open alongside Max Sorensen, as Munster stick to their pinch hitter theory to get a bowling all rounder at the top and make sure he can protect the better batsmen from the new ball. Their mainstays, Babar Azam and Ross Taylor have been very consistent throughout the tournament, and with the inclusion of Joe Root since the previous two matches, their batting has been strengthened ever since. For their bowling, Trent Boult is still to show the class he is known for, as he hasn't been able to pick up that many wickets as his team might have expected from him. George Dockrell has been splendid both in his batting and his bowling, and could surely be a game-changer.

After struggling for a long time, Max Sorensen finally gives in to the relentless accurate bowling by Pat Cummins and Barry McCarthy. Being sent in to pinch hit, he couldn't find any ball in the middle, and thus was becoming more of a liability. Finally trying to hit the ball out of the park, he edged the ball to Bairstow where he took a low catch to his right. At 31/1 after 8 overs, Reds won't be too worried, as Stephen Doheny, playing the first match of the season, is already starting to look good. In comes one of the best limited over batsmen around right now, Babar Azam. With 2 centuries already in this tournament to his name, can he get the third today?

Looks like Leinster are already going to spin with Rashid Khan, trying to get Doheny unsettled and also to get Azam out with a loose shot.

Stephen Doheny hits Rashid Khan for two fours in this over. This has been first sign of intent by him, after Sorensen got out. Meanwhile, Babar Azam has started in a confident way picking a couple of threes, with one almost reaching the boundary, only to be cut short by Kevin O'Brien. Leinster would be looking to strike now, considering the form Babar has been in.

And he reaches his fifty. What a masterstroke this has been by the Reds' management. Stephen Doheny has made full use of the opportunity he got today. He has been watchful, but has also been merciless whenever the bowler erred. Now, the Reds' will be hoping for him to continue and make a century today.
However, the run rate hasn't gone about 4.5 for some time now. Babar Azam, who was earlier looking a little fluent, has become a bit too slow. Curtis Campher and Barry McCarthy have been keeping the lines tight and now allowing batsmen to get away with strokes.

And the commentator's curse. Just as it was seeming that he would now accelerate, some excellence in the field by Rohit Sharma finds Doheny short as he was trying for a quick single. Nevertheless, it has been an excellent inning from the youngster.
In comes Ross Taylor, the current highest run getter so far this season. Can he do it again, as he has done in almost every match for the Reds?

And Pat Cummins strikes! The decision to bring back Pat Cummins, works as he picks up the wicket of Babar Azam. An off cutter on good length hit him on the pads, and the whole team appealed in unison and umpire Richard Kettleborough agreed. Babar Azam has finally been put out of his misery. He made 21 in 47 balls without any boundary.
There is still no breathing room for Lightning as Joe Root has come to the crease and has already shown his intent with a crisp cover drive for four.

More than halfway through the innings, we've got a great match at hand. Tune in after the drink break, to see the fierce competition between the Reds and Lightning.

The Leinster Lightning were quite happy going into the drinks break. While they still have two big fish, Ross Taylor and Joe Root still batting, they look pretty confident, considering the way Pat Cummins, Curtis Campher and Davey Scanlon have bowled in the last few overs.

The last few overs have been rather quite as Andy Balbirnie has been rotating his bowlers quite frequently, so that the batsmen do not settle down. Curtis Campher and Davey Scanlon, both have been very economical in their bowling, as the former bowling at an economy of 4.4 while then latter at an economy of 3.0. Pat Cummins has been given the ball once again, with the Lightning feeling a wicket is nearby.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man, cometh the Phenom! Rashid Khan, given the ball first time since the 18th over, shows his capabilities as he dismisses Joe Root for 37. A googly outside the off stump, Joe Root tried to go against the turn, and ended up giving a catch to Rohit Sharma at Short Extra Cover.

Ross Taylor has reached his fifty. Although the pitch hasn't been easy to bat on, he has stayed put on one end and has guided the innings so far. He'll be looking to up the scoring rate now, considering only 7 overs are left.
Pat Cummins has finished his quota of overs, while Barry McCarthy only has one over left.. Davey Scanlon, Rashid Khan, and Curtis Campher will look to keep the score as low as possible now.

Rashid Khan strikes one more time. While Ross Taylor has begun his assualt from the other end, Rashid Khan is doing his best to try and stop Munster, by picking up wickets from the other end. A classic leg break delivery outside off, just flighted enough to lure Greg Thompson out, and turns just enough for Bairstow to clip the bails off, before he gets back.

There's no stopping this guy. Ross Taylor lays into Davey Scanlon, hitting him for three consecutive boundaries. The first one was his favourite shot, a slog sweep over midwicket. The next ball, bowled a little too straight, was dispatched over long on, and the last one was hit towards to cover boundary. Munster have reached a total of 235 with one over left. Rashid Khan is coming to bowl the last over, with George Dockrell facing. The skipper, Dockrell has been in quite some form with the bat, having one of the highest strike rates in the season. Can he finish with a bang?

No he can't. Rashid Khan bowls an excellent final over, conceding just 4 runs, and picking up the wicket of George Dockrell. His spell was been of utmost quality, picking up 3 wickets and conceding runs at an economy of 5. Munster have finished on 239/6.

So here we are at the innings break. It has been a level match so far. Munster finished on 239/6, with Ross Taylor top scoring with 85 from 89 deliveries, hitting 8 boundaries and one maximum. Other main contributor was Stephen Doheny, playing his first match of the season, hitting a 73 ball 53.

For Leinster, Rashid Khan was easily the pick of the bowlers, as he took 3 wickets for just 40 runs, considering the fact he mainly bowled at the death. Pat Cummins was also good as he picked up 2 wickets for just 42 runs. Let's go to Ian Bishop, who is alongside Leinster captain, Andy Balbirnie.

Thank you, Yash.

So Andy, how do you feel about your performance?
I feel that we have done really well, considering the form the Reds have been in, especially their batting. To stop a middle order of Ross Taylor, Babar Azam and Joe Root so effectively, is a job well done.

What do you think about Munster's bowling? They have quite a few great pacers in Trent Boult, Ollie Newton and the ever experienced Max Sorensen.
There's no arguing they have a great bowling attack, and not to forget, a young team which field brilliantly. However, I feel we can chase this target down with the batting we have.

Thanks, Andy! All the best for the chase.

Stay tuned, as the second innings will start in a short time, with the Lightning needing 240 runs to win from 50 overs.

LEINSTER LIGHTNING INNINGS

Hello and welcome back to the Final of the Test Triangle IP50 series. The second innings is just about to begin. The Lightning opening pair, Jonny Bairstow and Rohit Sharma, have come to the pitch, and Trent Boult has the ball in hand. George Dockrell has put three slips in place, hoping that the bowlers find some swing early in the innings. The two men out of the ring, are a third man, and a fine leg. Let's get to the action.

Ollie Newton strike, with probably the biggest wicket of the Leinster lineup, and that too in the second over. Rohit Sharma got caught up in the crease, trying to play away from his body, and ended up edging a simple catch to Greame McCater at second slip. Game ON!

Andy Balbirnie, Mr. Consistent, falls! Trent Boult takes full advantage of the swing on offer, as he gets one to swing back from outside off, and takes away the off stump. It has been a disasterous start for Leinster and if they keep batting like this, it could be very difficult for them to chase this target.

The partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Nick Larkin had crossed 50, when the Reds' captain, George Dockrell took the matter into his own hands and it took him 3 overs to break that partnership. A skiddy arm ball beat Larkin for pace as he tried to hit it over mid wicket, only to find it in the hands of Joe Root. Munster would be looking to capitalise on this wicket, and not letting any further partnerships build, considering the requried rate is quite less than the current run rate.

The match is slipping out of Munster's hands as Gareth Delany and Kevin O'Brien have stitched together a 50 partnership, both going at nearly run a ball. Requiring just 73 runs now from 20 overs, the match is tilted in favour of Leinster at the moment.

Heading into the drinks break, the match looks 65:35 in favor of Leinster, with both their finishers Kevin O'Brien and Gareth Delany at the crease, well set at 33 and 25 respectively. Will Munster make a comback, or Leinster take the win easily? Stay tuned to find out.

I really do appreciate the outstanding effort you've put into this presentation of the final - I've just been a bit silent because of the whole home life drama I mentioned in a draft thread. Still pulling for Leinster, feel like we can do it
