I'm thinking of getting one of these, which one is the best one and likely to have the most support from software companies?

I was about to ask the same question. With Boxing day coming around, I need to set my mind on the console of choice, as the prices drop by a lot on that day.

I was asking the same question. I need to make the decision by Boxing day, as it usually has the best prices.

For me, I'll on the PS3 side.

PS3. It has a blu-ray drive, comes in all one unlike the bit-part Xbox 360 packagaes, is much less likely to break down than the 360 and it doesn't sound like a tractor.

Only thing PS3 has to offer is 'blue-ray' so everyone must watch a ton of dvd's......wait of course they do because theres no games to play on the PS3...

Get a 360, PS3 online is rubbish probably why it's free just sucks and yeah...360!

Xbox 360 is the way to go. This is not a biased opinion or anything, it's just the truth. As Punk Sk8r said, the only advantage that the PS3 has is that it is a Blu Ray player. In my opinion, both HD DVD and Blu Ray will fail, and another media will come in and become dominant.

In regards to gaming etc, PS3 has destroyed any chance it had to become the market leader, first of all by delaying and releasing PS3 a year or so after Xbox 360 and then further setting a huge price tag.

PS3 is dead, a few sales here and there won't make a difference.

As for online play, the Xbox LIVE community has been online for years now, and a huge base has already been developed, you are guaranteed to find a game, and note now that almost (if not all) Xbox 360 games support Xbox LIVE.

Finally, not to mention that Xbox 360 has a huge number of games released compared to the PS3.

Well that's my opinion, and just ignore the fact that I own a 360 myself.

The PS3 has lots more to offer than just Blu Ray. It isn't as bad online as you make out, it's free for a start and it has wireless capabilities built in. There are some brilliant games already out or in the pipeline for it, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Gran Turismo 5 to name but a few, and there are hardly any breakdowns on PS3 compared to the 360.

Punk, do you just hate the PS3? From what you've written it looks as if you have never played on one.

Firstly, if you get a Xbox360 for christmas, you'll have probably have had the red rings of death by New Year. Xbox 360's have a 33% failure rate, to be honest, that's a disgrace from Microsoft.

No games for PS3, eh? Here's some exclusives to be going along with:

MGS4
Gran Turismo 5
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Warhawk
Resistance: Fall Of Man
Haze
Eye Of Judgement
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Motorstorm
Little Big Planet

They're just exclusive games, there are multi-platform games that are out like COD4 and future ones like GTA4.

Also, HOME, which should be out in the Spring, it's going to be a free download from the PSN I think. Its like Second Life in a way that you have your own character and flat. For more info click the link below.

Now, on to Disc formats, Blu-ray, which is the format used on PS3 discs, has a large amount of memory stored on it, about 5 times the amount the Xbox DVD's have. Plus the PS3 upscales normal DVD's to near high definition standard with the latest firmware updates.

Now onto price, the 40GB PS3, which is the only version you're likely to find unless you can find a 60GB which is a rarity, only costs £280 from Play.com. I think the Xbox Elite is somewhere around that mark, so the price is not considerably different to that of the Xbot.

Then there's wireless internet, which is not available on the Xbox 360, unless you get the top model of it. Linked to that Xbox Live, which if you want to play games online with, you have to pay £40 a year, unlike the Playstation Network which is free. Give the PSN time to grow, it hasn't been going in the UK for a year yet!

I might add that all those games are brilliant as well.

The one advantage the Xbox 360 has over the PS3 is that it's games are in full HD, and PS3 ones in only 720 P. But that will change in time.

How many people do you know with 1080p compatible tv's though ? Mine is compatible with 1080i and 720p, and thats good enough for me. PS3 > 360 though, i've owned both, and the PS3 is the better machine for what i want it to do.

The problems with PS3 online are severely over rated, and severely talked up by the 360 fan boys. I rigorously tested both consoles and the PS3 came out well on top. Just get the 40gig and spend $170 on a 500gig external hard drive.
