New South Wales Blues finish with a modest at best 157-run total. Their most-prolific batsman, Phillip Hughes was dismissed for only a single, and left the New South Wales Blues in a bit of a predicament. They did, however, find resurgence because of all the star-power they have in their batting line.
Simon Katich and Steven Smith scored fifties, and pushed the New South Wales Blues to a competitive total. If it hadn't been for these two men, things could've gotten a lot worse for the New South Wales Blues.
Rajasthan Royals had a pretty inconsistent bowling card, with their two Australian players being the best thing about it. Sohail Tanvir and Munaf Patel were smacked for quite some runs, whereas Shane Warne and Shane Watson seemed utterly impervious at times.

Oh, so close! Rajasthan Royals falls short by a narrow 12-run margin. New South Wales Blues managed to defend a 157-run target on this batsmen-friendly wicket.
Mohammad Kaif and Mahesh Rawat were the only two rays of light in this Rajasthan Royals' innings, plagued by darkness. Their efforts were insufficient though, as Nathan Bracken and Moises Henriques dismissed the two aforementioned batsmen, just before they snatched the game away from New South Wales Blues.
Stuart Clark, dismissed the entire top-order on his own, and bowled a brilliant penultimate over. Brett Lee quite easily defended 16 runs off the final over, whilst bowling to the tailenders. Moises Henriques struck twice to dismiss Mahesh Rawat and Swapnil Asnodkar towards the end of the innings to dismantle the Rajasthan Royals' hopes and dreams of playing the final.

SUMMARY

The 2009 edition of the Champions League Twenty20 was the sixth iteration of the tournament. It was played in India for the first time since its inception in 2004.
It featured ten teams - two less than the previous season. The ten participants were split into two pools of five, with only the top-two making it to the finals.
Chennai and Ahmedabad only played hosts to the pool games, whereas Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata played hosts to the finals as well as the pool games.
With the last-mentioned city getting to host the grand finale. In Mumbai, the Brabourne Stadium was used instead of the more-popular Wankhede Stadium.

The hometeam, Rajasthan Royals competed as well after having won the inaugural Indian Premier League. They were poised as one of the favourites to win this season.
Wayamba Elevens returned for the second successive time, and the Sialkot Stallions returned for their fourth successive time to participate in this season.
Champions of the previous year's Champions League; Trinidad & Tobago could not qualify for the event as there was no twenty20 competition held in the Caribbean.
This was also the first time a Canadian club participated in the Champions League Twenty20. The name of said Canadian cricket club was; Ontario Cricket Club.

There were three player clashes this season. Not the first time the teams playing in the Champions League have had players in their squads that clash with other teams.
Brendon McCullum was contracted by the New South Wales Blues as well as the Otago Volts. Being a local to the latter team, he was retained by them with no hesitation.
Rajasthan Royals had to give up two players from their squad. Luckily for them, they had players on standby from their already oversized Indian Premier League squad.
Dimitri Mascarenhas was given to the Otago Volts for being an overseas player signed by another team that already had enough overseas players, i.e. the Rajasthan Royals.
And the Cape Cobras were able to grab hold of their star opener, Graeme Smith from the Rajasthan Royals. As he was obviously a local player to the Cape Cobras.

The tournament was won by New South Wales Blues, who defeated the Cape Cobras in the final to lift the trophy. The match was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Cape Cobras remained unbeaten throughout the pool stage, and finished at the top. They defeated the Middlesex Panthers in the semi-final, and quite convincingly so.
New South Wales Blues finished first in their pool, having lost only one game. That loss came from the Middlesex Panthers. They played the hometeam in the semi-final.
Obviously, the hometeam being Rajasthan Royals. New South Wales Blues beat the Rajasthan Royals by a narrow 12-run margin to play the Cape Cobras in the final.
After having set a 184-run target for the Cape Cobras, New South Wales Blues' Brett Lee successfully defended 9 runs by picking up a hat trick in the final over to win.

Brett Lee's sensational hat trick in the last over of the final was not the only tremendous individual performance this edition of the Champions League saw.
Just before the final, JP Duminy powered the Cape Cobras with an unbeaten 100* off 63 deliveries to push his team over the edge against the Middlesex Panthers.
Shane Warne, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals bagged a 5-wicket haul in a single over. Otago Volts' batsmen had no answer to his wrist-spin and collapsed instantly.
Middlesex Panthers' Irish-import, Tim Murtagh bowled an amazing spell of fast-bowling and registered the first 5-wicket haul of the season, and only the second overall.

At the end of the season, JP Duminy of the Cape Cobras finished with the most runs. He scored 312 runs at an astounding average of 78.00, which included a hundred.
He was an asset with the ball, as well. He picked 7 wickets at an economy of 6.85, but unfortunately, his heroics weren't enough to lead his team to championship win.
He was, however, adjudged as the Player of the Tournament for his incredible all-round excellence, which lasted throughout the entire edition of the Champions League.
Brett Lee, with 15 scalps to his name, was the leading wicket-taker this edition. He was a key factor in New South Wales Blues' triumphant Champions League campaign.

MATCHES OF THE TOURNAMENT

14th Pool Match, Middlesex Panthers vs Sialkot Stallions - Sialkot Stallions won by 6 wickets (without a ball to spare)
Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai

The pool-toppers, the Middlesex Panthers played the Sialkot Stallions in a game, which was a must-win situation for the Sialkot Stallions if they were to stay in alive.
Middlesex Panthers needed this win to assure their place in the semi-finals, and the Sialkot Stallions needed it to avoid elimination from the tournament.
On the batsmen-friendly wicket of the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, it was no surprise that the winners of the toss, the Middlesex Panthers, would opt to bat first.

This was Andrew Strauss' first match in the tournament. He was brought in place of Billy Godleman, and asked to open the innings alongside Ed Joyce.
He was dismissed on the 4th ball of the first over by Naved Arif. This was not the debut he would've wanted. An early blow left the Middlesex Panthers in tatters.
Dawid Malan and Ed Joyce retaliated by scoring quick runs during the power play, but their progress was brought to a halt by Naved Arif, who claimed his 2nd wicket.
Ed Joyce was dismissed in the very next over by Kashif Daud, who, had gone for plenty of runs in the 3.0 overs he had bowled. His spell came to an end with a wicket.

Owais Shah and Eoin Morgan were the two batsmen at the crease, and they were left with the heavy task of having to salvage the innings, and finish with a big score.
They did, just that. Eoin Morgan and Owais Shah added a 98-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Owais Shah also reached his fifty in the midst of all this.
However, Eoin Morgan was dismissed five runs short of his fifty in the 17th over, and thus, the partnership came to its end, courtesy of Salman Ali's fast-bowling.

But, the incomer, Tyron Henderson didn't let the fall of Eoin Morgan's wicket derail the Middlesex Panthers' innings, instead, he used it as fuel for a fiery knock.
He played a blitzy cameo, scoring 24 runs off just 16 deliveries to close out the Middlesex Panthers' innings. In the end, they finished with a massive 182-run total.
Owais Shah was the anchorman for the Middlesex Panthers' innings, he remained unbeaten on 64 off 43 deliveries. Naved Arif had the best bowling figures, of 2/29.

Sialkot Stallions started their 183-run chase swiftly, with Imran Nazir and Kamran Younis, their openers adding 38 runs in the first 5.0 overs of the innings.
The partnership was brought to its end in the 6th over, by Dirk Nannes, who dismissed Kamran Younis. He scored only 15 runs off 11 deliveries before getting out.
Imran Nazir was joined by his skipper Shoaib Malik. This was undoubtedly the best pairing the Sialkot Stallions could've asked for in a situation like this.

Imran Nazir kept batting the way he was batting before the dismissal of Kamran Younis, and achieved a fifty. He brought it up on the last delivery of the 10th over.
After seeing Imran Nazir bring up his fifty, and looking like he had been well-set, Shoaib Malik, the skipper, accelerated and moved towards his own fifty.
Shoaib Malik brought up his fifty in the 16th over, when his team was cruising and looking like they'd win without any sort of troubles. He reached 50 in just 31 balls.
In the next over, i.e. the 17th, Imran Nazir was stumped after a poor shot selection, and the Middlesex Panthers found the breakthrough they were looking for.

In came Shahid Yousuf, who, after wildly missing his first delivery, struck the next two for a four and a six, respectively. The over was brought to its end.
With 18 balls left, and 37 more runs needed, Shoaib Malik played premeditated shots and scored 11 runs off the 18th over, which was bowled by Tim Murtagh.
Unfortunately for Shoaib Malik, though, was the fact that Shahid Yousuf was dismissed on the last ball of that 18th over, and most importantly, a ball was wasted.

With 26 runs needed off the last 12 deliveries, Tyron Henderson, bowling the penultimate over, dismissed the well-set Shoaib Malik on the very first ball of the over.
He continued to bowl the rest of the over very well, only up until the last two deliveries, which were smacked for a four and a six, respectively, by Haris Sohail.
Dirk Nannes was given the ball to bowl the final over, and defend 15 runs. He failed to do so, if only because it was Haris Sohail's brilliance in the end.
He single-handedly snatched the game away from the Middlesex Panthers, striking a six off the last delivery, when exactly six runs were required for the win.

15th Pool Match, Cape Cobras vs Otago Volts - Cape Cobras won by 9 runs
M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

This was an all-important pool match played between the Cape Cobras and the Otago Volts, which ultimately became the decider of Otago Volts' fate.
The Cape Cobras won the toss and opted to bat first on a hard, batsman-friendly wicket at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai against the Otago Volts.
Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs opened the innings for the Cape Cobras, and Ian Butler bowled the first ball of the match, for the Otago Volts.
Cape Cobras' innings started in a flurry, as the openers added 44 runs very quickly, before, Herschelle Gibbs got dismissed by a scorching delivery from Ian Butler.

The breakthrough provided the Otago Volts some breathing space, but, it was all undone as JP Duminy, the next batsman on the crease, smashed them for runs.
By the 10th over, the Cape Cobras were 99/1 with JP Duminy on an 18-ball 30, and Graeme Smith just six short of his fifty. They were running away with this.
In the 12th over, Graeme Smith completed his fifty, even though, the run rate had been brought down because of two really slow overs from the Otago Volts.

JP Duminy and Graeme Smith continued their assault on the Otago Volts for five more overs, before they both were dismissed in the 18th over, by James McMillan.
Only 8 runs came off the final 12 deliveries, courtesy of James McMillan's timely breakthrough. The Cape Cobras, finished about 20 runs short. They ended on 187/8.
Not only did they lose their way towards the end, and finished considerably short, they also lost 7 wickets within 18 deliveries. Completely collapsing at the end.

Given a 188-run target, the Otago Volts started off very poorly. They lost one of their opener, Hamish Rutherford, in the 2nd over to Charl Langeveldt.
But, the new man in, Neil Broom, played very cautiously, while Brendon McCullum did the hitting from the other end. At the end of the 6th over, they were 78/1.
Brendon McCullum had already reached his fifty by that point. He was on 52* off 22 deliveries, with 7 fours and 2 sixes. He was the main man to get rid of.
Neil Broom and Brendon McCullum continued to milk the Cape Cobras for runs, while none of Justin Ontong's bowling changes seemed to work, and there were many.
Neil Broom brought up his fifty in the 14th over, at the end of which, the Otago Volts needed 57 runs. With 36 balls remaining, and 9 wickets still in hand.

Things took a turn for the worst for the Otago Volts, as the next two overs resulted in only 16 runs. Which was just not enough in the situation that they were in.
And then, JP Duminy struck twice in the 17th over to remove Neil Broom and the dangerous Dimitri Mascarenhas, whilst giving away only 6 runs in said over.
The requirement creeped up to 35 off 18 balls, and they had lost one of their well-set batsman. The next over, bowled by Monde Zondeki, resulted in 12 runs.
But, in the penultimate over, Brendon McCullum was dismissed by Charl Langeveldt, and only 5 runs came. The situation swung in favour of the bowling side.
Rory Kleinveldt successfully defended 18 runs in the final over, and even bagged 2 scalps, providing his team with the win. This loss knocked the Otago Volts out.

16th Pool Match, Greenock Cricket Club vs Hague Cricket Club - Hague Cricket Club won by 6 runs
Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Despite of both the teams in this match having been already knocked out of contention for the finals, the associate representatives produced a thrilling encounter.
Greenock Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bowl first, and the decision payed off big, as Dewald Nel bagged 2 wickets in the very first over of the match.
Dismissing Johann Myburgh after being hit for a six the ball prior, and after that, Feiko Kloppenburg, the captain of Hague Cricket Club. They started very swiftly.
The Kiwi import, Chris Nevin and arguably their best batsman, Tom de Grooth recuperated the innings and launched a much-needed damage-control mission.

The two added a 110-run second wicket partnership, and both of them achieved fifties in the process. The pairing was brought to an end in the 16th over, though.
Sean Weeraratne struck, and dismissed Chris Nevin to end the partnership. Two balls later, he also picked up the wicket of the new batsman, Bob Entrop.
The fall of Chris Nevin's wicket stalled the run rate, a little, and put pressure on Tom de Grooth. Tom de Grooth succumbed to that pressure in the 18th over.
Moneeb Iqbal claimed his wicket, as well as Jacob-Jan Esmeijer's in the very next ball. Hague Cricket Club had a bit of a collapse towards the end of the innings.

The last two overs resulted in only 9 runs, as Hague Cricket Club fell evidently short of what their final total would have been, had they not had a collapse.
Richie Berrington, the captain of Greenock Cricket Club, picked up 3 wickets in the final over. Dismissing Shane Deitz, Mark Jonkman and Edward Sleijffers.
The fall of wickets completely ruined the flow of runs for Hague Cricket Club, leaving them with an underwhelming total of 143/9 at the end of their innings.

Greenock Cricket Club had an unsteady start to their chase, losing their first wicket in only the second over to the skipper of Hague Cricket Club, Feiko Kloppenburg.
Adam Lockhart-Krause and Cameron Borgas tried to recuperate the innings, and they achieved that to some extent, before Feiko Kloppenburg started bowling again.
He picked up two wickets in the 4th over, and the captain of Greenock Cricket Club, Richie Berrington, ran himself out, panicking. Three wickets fell in no time.
Mark Jonkman dismissed Adam Lockhart-Krause in the next over, putting the Greenock Cricket Club in a massive predicament. They were 49/5 at the end of 5.0.

Alex Baum was run out in the next over, in a major mixup, but then, Greenock Cricket Club made one of the most spectacular comebacks, you are ever likely to see.
Moneeb Iqbal and Craig Wright were the batsmen at the crease, and they played cautiously, whilst maintaining the run rate to as much as the required.
They added a 58-run partnership for the seventh wicket, taking the total to 107/6 at the end of the 15th over. Unfortunately, Craig Wright was bowled right after.
Sean Weeraratne couldn't stand up against Jacob-Jan Esmeijer bowling either. He went for a golden duck. At the end of the over, Greenock Cricket Club needed 29.

But, with only 2 wickets at hand, it was going to be no easy task. And it showed, as the well-set batsman, Moneeb Iqbal fell to Maurits Jonkman.
Greenock Cricket Club still managed to score 18 runs off that over, in spite of Moneeb Iqbal's wicket. They were left with an ask of 11 runs from 18 balls.
Greenock Cricket Club only had one wicket though, and it fell! Bernard Loots dismissed Dewald Nel to wrap up the match, and give Hague Cricket Club the win.

20th Pool Match, Rajasthan Royals vs Cape Cobras - Cape Cobras won by 4 wickets (without a ball to spare)
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Banglore

In the last match of the pool stage, Rajasthan Royals took on the Cape Cobras to decide the table-toppers of Pool A. Both teams were unbeaten at this point.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat first against the Cape Cobras, on a batsman-friendly wicket, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Banglore.
Claude Henderson was smashed for 16 by Kamran Akmal in the first over, but then, JP Duminy pulled things back for the Cape Cobras by dismissing Shane Watson.
Kamran Akmal continued the onslaught and added more quick runs alongside Yousuf Pathan, but, then the latter was dismissed and their run rate fell, considerably.

In the next over, Charl Langeveldt struck twice and dismissed Niraj Patel and Mohammad Kaif. Rajasthan Royals' score was already propelled by Kamran Akmal.
He achieved his fifty in the 9th over of the game, just off 24 deliveries. He was carrying the innings on his shoulder, well-accompanied by Mahesh Rawat.
Kamran Akmal was doing all the heavy-lifting whilst Mahesh Rawat kept the other end of the wicket safe and secure. Their pairing pushed their team to 138/4.
This pairing was brought to a halt by Vernon Philander, who ripped the stumps out of the ground, bowling to Kamran Akmal, dismissing him for a 44-ball 73.

Ravindra Jadeja, the next man in, and Mahesh Rawat still managed to squeeze 12 runs off the remaining balls from Vernon Philander's over, bringing up the 150.
Rajasthan Royals seemed to have lost their way in the end, by having lost their tail-end wickets for not much runs, but Mahesh Rawat still held his end safe.
Mahesh Rawat played a determined knock and pushed the final total of the team to 187 for 8, only to be dismissed on the last ball of the innings for a 42-ball 49.

Cape Cobras started their 188-run chase off very poorly, as Sohail Tanvir struck twice in the same over and dismissed Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs.
Arguably, Their two best batsmen failed to deliver and succumbed to pressure in a situation that really demanded the best out of them, all because of Sohail Tanvir.
JP Duminy and Justin Ontong rejuvenated the Cape Cobras' innings, by adding a 65-run partnership after having lost their openers quite early in the innings.
Justin Ontong was dismissed, however, by Shane Watson. He edged the ball straight up into the air, and it was taken comfortably by the bowler, himself.

He played a lofty 14-ball 31-run innings, which brought life back into the Cape Cobras' run-chase. Surprisingly Rory Kleinveldt, a bowler, was sent out to bat next.
The decision turned out to be poor, as Rory Kleinveldt was dismissed shortly after. He played only 4 balls, but somehow, that was enough to halt their progress.
Henry Davids came on to bat next, and took the mantle of 'keeping one end safe', whilst JP Duminy did the damage from the other end. They were successful at it.
JP Duminy brought up his 50 in the 10th over, achieving it in only 27 balls. Even though, he had batted beautifully, he still had a long way to go to secure the win.

The two batsmen at the crease played very cautiously, and brought the team's total closer to the target slowly, but steadily. Henry Davids was scoring at run-a-ball.
With 56 runs needed off the last 5.0 overs, Henry Davids and JP Duminy decided to accelerate their scoring rate, and they started taking unnecessary risks.
Shane Warne, being the pro that he is, saw this as an opportunity to strike, and he did exactly that. He dismissed Henry Davids after bowling a tight 3-run over.

JP Duminy, who had been on the crease for quite some time, decided to take charge and lash out at the bowlers, but that turned out to be his swansong.
This act of desperation left a giant hole in Cape Cobras' innings, and gave the Rajasthan Royals a ray of hope, which they quite fancied to capitalise on.
But, it was not to be, as Andrew Puttick, Cape Cobras' No.8 batsman and wicket-keeper, played the best cameo from any position, in the history of the league.
He blasted a 21-ball 49, which led the Cape Cobras to the victory in astonishing fashion. This included scoring 19 runs in the final over against Munaf Patel.
For his heroics, he was awarded the Player of the Match award as the Cape Cobras registered their fourth consecutive win, and finished at the top of the table.

The Final, New South Wales Blues vs Cape Cobras - New South Wales Blues won by 1 run
Eden Gardens, Kolkata

It could not get any bigger than this! The entire season led up to The Final of the Champions League Twenty20, and what a thriller this game of cricket was!
Played at a jam-packed Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the final saw the undefeated Cape Cobras take on the favourites, New South Wales to decide who lifts the trophy.
The favourites leading up to the start of this tournament, the New South Wales Blues from Australia won the toss and they elected to bat first in the final.

David Warner and Phillip Hughes opened the innings, and Claude Henderson bowled the first over. He was dispatched for 20 runs, by the bat of David Warner.
Monde Zondeki however, retorted to some of the damage inflicted by David Warner. In the second over, he dismissed New South Wales Blues' highest run-scorer.
Phillip Hughes, that is. He fell to Monde Zondeki, after trying to slog-sweep him when clearly, there was a man set in place to take the catch if he mis-hit.

In the next two overs bowled by Charl Langeveldt and Rory Kleinveldt, in that order, went for 11 runs each. Pushing the New South Wales Blues to 57/1 in 4.0 overs.
David Warner and Simon Katich were cruising up until the first ball of the 6th over, where Simon Katich lost his wicket to Rory Kleinveldt via an inside-edge.
The next man to come on to bat was Steven Smith. David Warner and Steven Smith carried the innings throughout the next few overs, whilst scoring steadily.
Cape Cobras' bowlers were looking for a small opening, and they were unable to find it for quite some time. David Warner on the other hand, brought up his fifty.
A 50 off just 27 deliveries became the fuel for New South Wales Blues' engine. He played flawlessly, as Steven Smith accompanied him, and secured one end.

It became extremely difficult for the Cape Cobras' bowlers to find a breakthrough. New South Wales Blues were 150 for the loss of only 2, at the end of the 17th.
David Warner continued to squeeze Cape Cobras' bowlers for runs, and Steven Smith accelerated his scoring rate as well. He brought up his fifty in style, with a six.
On the first ball of the last over, Rory Kleinveldt picked-up the wicket of Steven Smith, but it was of little to no use, as he had already done his job to perfection.
New South Wales Blues finished with 183 for the loss of 3 wickets in their full 20.0, with David Warner being the star and remaining unbeaten on 76* off 51 deliveries.

Cape Cobras began their 184-run chase with a bang! Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs opened the innings, and the aforementioned started off fearsomely.
He smashed Stuart Clark and Brett Lee for 11 and 10-run overs, respectively. On the other end, Herschelle Gibbs lost his wicket to Stuart Clark in the 3rd over.
Luckily for the Cape Cobras, the next man to the crease was JP Duminy, the century-scorer from the last game. Him and Graeme Smith played out the powerplay.

Graeme Smith played brilliantly, and showed resilience and experience. However, he was very lucky to have been dropped on 48, when he skied it straight up.
JP Duminy, who was playing very cautiously and carefully, also accelerated his scoring-rate and started to take some risks to add more runs in quick manner.
The two batsmen brought up hundred runs for their 2nd-wicket partnership in the 14th over, leaving them with a required equation of 62 runs from 36 balls.

New South Wales Blues, desperate for a breakthrough, finally found one when Doug Bollinger dismissed Graeme Smith after his awe-inspiring 82 off 50 balls.
With 46 runs required off the last 24 deliveries, JP Duminy smashed Nathan Bracken's 17th over for 17 runs, narrowing the required equation, and bringing up his 50.

It seemed like the game was in Cape Cobras' hands with the requirement being 29 off 18 balls, with 8 wickets still in hand and a well-set JP Duminy at the crease.
And Moises Henriques' terrible 18th over proved that to have been even more accurate after being smashed all over the park for 17 runs, as well by JP Duminy's bat.
But then, Stuart Clark bowled a tidy penultimate over, giving away only 3 runs, and managing to restrain JP Duminy from retaining the strike for the final over.

JP Duminy not being on-strike for the final over, even with just 9 runs required off the final over with 8 wickets still intact, turned out to be significant point.
Because what followed after can only be described as completely magical moment that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for the New South Wales Blues.
Brett Lee was given the ball to defend 9 runs off the final over by his captain. He started the over off by dismissing Justin Ontong for 7 on the very first ball.
The next ball, Brett Lee claimed the wicket of Rory Kleinveldt, while all JP Duminy could do was watch like a spectator from the non-striker's end.

On the hat-trick ball, he ripped the stumps out of the ground to dismiss Henry Davids and complete his hat-trick. The requirement grew to 9 runs off 3 balls.
Vernon Philander, the next man in, tried to paddle the ball away for a single and get JP Duminy on strike, but missed the ball and it ended up being a dot-ball.
He did get the single on the next ball, which brought JP Duminy on-strike, but it was too late at that point. 8 runs were required off the last delivery.

All Brett Lee had to do was, avoid bowling a wide or a no-ball, and he did that quite easily. And though, the last ball was smashed for a six by JP Duminy.
It still meant, that the New South Wales Blues won the match by pulling off a 1-run win against the Cape Cobras, which can be described as nothing but miraculous.

HIGHLIGHT REEL

:ire: :bwl: TIM MURTAGH 5/20 (4.0) MIDDLESEX PANTHERS
9th GAME; POOL B - MIDDLESEX PANTHERS vs ONTARIO CRICKET CLUB at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

Middlesex Panthers opted to bat first after winning the toss, and set the Ontario Cricket Club a menacing target of 187 to chase down in their full quota.
Tim Murtagh's sensational spell of fast-bowling cracked the moral of Ontario Cricket Club's batsmen, and made them crumble under immense pressure.

He dismissed two batsmen in his very first over, and then claimed two more wickets in his third over. He completed his 5-fer in the final over of the innings.
His early strikes against the Ontario Cricket Club rocked their innings, and pretty much pulled the rug from under them. Thus, ensuring they did not stand a chance.
-
:aus: :bwl: SHANE WARNE 5/6 (2.0) RAJASTHAN ROYALS
11th GAME; POOL A - RAJASTHAN ROYALS vs OTAGO VOLTS at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad

Shane Warne bowled one of the most amazing over, you have ever seen! He dismissed five batsmen in the space of six balls to register a 5-wicket haul.
His 5-wicket over was more than enough to completely dismantle the Otago Volts, who up until that point, were sailing smoothly. They went from 123/5 to 126/10.

The target set for them was below par, and with the batting they had, it was sure to be a one-sided beatdown. And it was. They chased it down comfortably.
In the end, the Rajasthan Royals beat the Otago Volts with 6 wickets and 38 balls to spare, all because of Shane Warne's 5-wicket over which utterly destroyed them.
-
:saf: :bat: JP DUMINY 100* (63) CAPE COBRAS
1st SEMI-FINAL - CAPE COBRAS vs MIDDLESEX PANTHERS at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai

It was a high-stakes encounter between the unbeaten, Cape Cobras and the formidable Middlesex Panthers, and JP Duminy produced a scintillating performance.
After having already been the pick of the bowlers, with his figures of 2/14 from 3.0 overs during the first innings, he scored a century during the second.
Middlesex Panthers had set the Cape Cobras a 169-run target. JP Duminy's unbeaten 100* off 63 balls, pushed the Cape Cobras across the line, and into the final.

He batted alongside Graeme Smith, who himself, scored a brilliant and unbeaten 70* off 50 deliveries. Their partnership saw the team home, quite comfortably.
This was, by far, the best innings of the tournament, and perhaps, the best in the history of the Champions League. Truly, a match-winning performance.
-
:aus: :bwl: BRETT LEE 3/27 (hat trick) NEW SOUTH WALES BLUES
THE FINAL - NEW SOUTH WALES BLUES vs CAPE COBRAS at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

In a match of great importance, and at a moment of the highest of pressures, Brett Lee produced absolute magic, and successfully defended 9 runs off the last over.
This might have been the single most important performance in the history of the highlight reel, because it could not have come at a better time.
Brett Lee was given the ball by his captain to defend 9 runs off the final over, in the Champions League Twenty20 finale. He ended up picking a hat trick.

The well-set batsman, JP Duminy was at the non-striker's end. Brett Lee took full advantage of that, by dismissing Justin Ontong who had only faced 7 balls.
He then picked up the wicket of Rory Kleinveldt, and then Henry Davids to complete his hat trick. JP Duminy at the other end could only watch this annihilation.
With 8 runs required off the last delivery, a last-ball six from the bat of JP Duminy did not matter, and Brett Lee's hat trick won his team the title.
