T20 World Cup 2024 (West Indies/USA)

I am on radio talking about it on WFAN :D

The biggest concern should be the fact that Pakistan, a former WC winner and the runners-up of the last WC looked mentally shot after the final ball of the twentieth over and were twice as nervous and worried during the entirety of the super over compared to an associate side that is playing in their first WC.

They made an extremely good comeback to restrict the flow of boundaries and put themselves in the winning position. A bad death over can always happen in this format but even after that last over had they kept their heads focused they would have been likely favourites in the super over given their momentum.

Instead we saw Babar berate Rauf terribly and the body language of the team completely drop. Not sure what exactly happened in the super over discussions but Amir, an experienced T20 bowler who had previously bowled a splendid over in the death conceded three wides, Rizwan who is one of the best glovemen out there couldn’t effect a runout on any of the three occasions and their fielding looked disinterested.

And even then, they still could have chased it down. This was probably the first time Netravalkar was bowling a super over in international cricket and yet they opted to not have the left handed batter face him first. They also delayed their arrival to the crease. Incredibly enough, Fakhar didn’t bat a single ball of the over either despite possibly being the most destructive batter in the side.

Think Pakistan lost the game at 19.6 and not in the super over ultimately, the latter was just a mere playing out of the inevitable.

Dallas has reaped the reward of testing their ground in the Major League Cricket Season 1 last year, and the games in Dallas have turned out to be EXCELLENT! Its a damn shame that Morrisville, North Carolina was not given this World Cup when they were also tested in the MLC Season 1 last year. Florida has a history of hosting internationals and rightfully are the 3rd host. Too big a risk to have New York play host in such a big tournament with no prior test runs whatsoever!

With two wins out of two and also having the prospect of facing Ireland, USA are in with a real chance of Super 8 qualification. Their game vs India and Ireland are going to be massive.

His story is genuinely incredible. The bloke tried to handle a professional cricket career along with an educational degree but realised that it wouldn’t work so dedicated his time to cricket full time after he finished his undergraduate course. Realised that he was unlikely to get as far as international cricket for India due to lost development time and with a decent degree under his belt, joins a top university in the US, gets a good job and also decides to play cricket there.

And now he’s one of the sporting icons of USA Cricket. Remarkable.

So, one match in and as things stand:

Scenario 1

Pakistan beat India
USA beat India

Pakistan beat Canada, and Ireland to qualify

The chance of that realistically happening is about as much as there being intelligent life underground Mars.

Scenario 2

Pakistan lose to India (which they will)
Pakistan beat Canada, Ireland
USA lose to India, Ireland

Pakistan to have better NRR than USA

In the off chance that Pakistan somehow miraculously defeat India on Sunday, USA having a win against Ireland won't hamper our chances in this scenario.

But this is more or less it.

How about Pakistan remain winless?
