The Blast group stages finish this week. Quarter finals not until September.

One Day Cup being played in between (as well as The Hundred). One Day Cup groups and knockouts finish by mid-August before a 5 week wait for the final (which is the week after the Blast finals day).

Ridiculous.

Part of the new women's structure in England they're having a knock-out tournament featuring teams from 39 counties. Wish the men's game had something like this (used to back in the Natwest Trophy days).

'The ECB has also announced today the formation of a knock-out cup competition consisting of teams from all three tiers. The aim of the cup competition is to provide all Counties with the opportunity to compete against each other, play at some of the country’s biggest venues, and give players across the pyramid the chance to test their skills on an elevated platform. It is anticipated that the cup competition will be launched in 2025, alongside the establishment the three-tiered structure.'

I do generally think that the women's and associates structures (where there's less money to be made) end up much better. People aren't jumping through hoops to squeeze even penny out of it, so just use formats that are common sense, fair and entertaining.

Cracking performance from Kai Smith today. Warwickshire were 77 for 5, chasing 287. He gets 130 from 104, put on 180 for the sixth wicket with Will Rhodes and led the Bears into the semi finals.

Honestly it still bugs the hell out of me that when you go to the ground you don't get players introduced like "At number seven, UAE international Kai Smith!" because that's the sort of thing that should be bigged up.

Especially when that UAE international single-handedly knocks Worcestershire out of the competition: doing god's work.

He attended a school in Dubai with "two 25-metre swimming pools, 2 learner pools, 525-seater theatre, tennis courts, basketball courts, three dining rooms, drama and dance studios, music rooms, running tracks, football pitch, G4 rugby pitch, a pirate ship playground and large outdoor space"

Either way, it's good to see youngsters taking their chances. Honestly, most of the positives from The Hundred seem to be unintentional, whether it's the boost to the women's game or youngsters breaking through via the ODC.

The same goes for Justin Broad: the fact that he's not announced as a German international every time he steps onto a cricket field winds me up

It's kinda typical of English cricket thing that we fail to recognise a cricketing world beyond our shores, unless it suits us.
