Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Catching mini game removal from the game is very sad that BA are telling like unusual results occur when player tries to bring the circle in the zone to claim catch. If that's the case then why human bowler bowl deliveries to batter? It's waste of time, would've been better AI bowl to AI . Catching mini game require skill to catch ball

It’s awful that they took it out

It never worked consistently, if at all, for me. In fact I remember the last times I saw it, it would appear for with virtually zero reaction time rendering it impossible for anyone.
I recall having occasional problems though I think my experience was the opposite of yours - worked mostly, failed rarely.

But it worked fine in several games. The answer was to fix it, not delete it.

I recall a long time ago, when AC13 vs DBC was the thing, Ross saying about AC only having auto fielding that it was no good as the player needed to be “in the moment”. He was right.

I should add, that I’m deep into a second test match at the moment having not played at all for a long time. It’s genuinely fun, but the removal of this feature is diminishes the fun of bowling quite considerably for me. (I know others, such as @Wealey never used it and didn’t like it, but it really added to the game for me.)

I don't disagree but if, for whatever reason, it can't be fixed I'd rather not have something that doesn't work. Not fun plugging away to get an edge and see it dropped because you don't possess the power of precognition.

I'm probably more on @Wealey's side in preferring auto-fielding because I just don't know how engaging fielding is/can be to make me not just use fully automated option.

I have never actually tried it.. I think my biggest issue is I’m a broadcast cam kind of batsmen as I’m always looking to try replicate how I would watch the game on TV.

So I prefer see the ball fly off the edge without the camera changing and get pouched in the slips.

Have always thought that cut to mini game looked ugly.

Fielding has never appealed to me though either, just pick the ball up and let me crack on haha.

I mean, I definitely don’t want to be fielding. I’m ok with the throwing the ball to end etc. but I don’t want to be moving the fielder.

I agree the camera cut was not super elegant but I’m not sure what the solution would be. I liked the sense of agency of making the catch myself though. Often when bowling I don’t feel a lot of agency, so having input to whether catches were taken or dropped was nice

I do agree with this. I've been saying for ages that legitimate tactics and strategies that can be identified - with a weighted chance of success or failure - would give us more agency. Instead it feels like trying to play 'properly' and with no certainty that what we're doing is 'right' and if all else fails throw on a spinner.

The catching mini-game at least presents a way that feels skills based from a gaming perspective.

I want to share a tip for online players , if you are batting and struggling to pickup slower deliveries from a bowler then change it to dynamic broadcast cam and zoom level to 0 next time when a bowler bowls a slower delivery there will be slight stutter of the camera when the bowler is running in , if there is no stutter then it's a fast delivery and if there is stutter it's a slower one.

Thank me later for this advice try it first.

Not sure if it works if the opponent is using arcade controls for bowling but definitely working 100% if the opponent is using pro controls for bowling.

I'm assuming they've only removed it for close in fielders? Took a catch at fine leg about 20 minutes ago in my game that still had the mini game.

My current game is a great example. AI is chasing 451 on a day 4 pitch. Effortlessly getting past 200 opening partnership, seam doing nothing. Literally not an edge in 60+ overs.

I couldn’t bring myself to use the part time spinners so went short ball, they’ve crumbled to 250/6 in no time, rebuilding a bit now.

Weirdly, in the above I got it suddenly come up for a slip catch. As ever BA don’t know their own code

@Wealey @blockerdave @wasteyouryouth Hey guys apologies for pinging you but I recognise your names from the past so hope all is well. I asked her a few weeks ago or maybe longer what the state of C24 is and if it's worth getting so I'd like to ask you guys what your honest opinion is?

I understand it won't be some huge change from C22 but I'm mostly interested in the gameplay side of things, how is bowling to the AI? Can you get an authentic experience and varied dismissals? I love a bowling experience where you get many nicks whether they carry or not, just stuff that resembles realism. Batting I feel has never been THAT bad in most cricket games it's just bowling to AI that I'm concerned about.

Thanks and once again hope you've all been well!

Problem is AI loosing wickets with catches to human Spin bowling with short leg and silly point in place frequently in test matches without catching mini game working seems to be(AI vs AI) like Indian batters performance on turning pitches.

I wish AI spin bowling was better. 95% of deliveries turns towards stumps which mean RH LS is bowling a Wrong'un 5 times an over to a RH batter. Doesn't make any sense.
