2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Australia

It was a good World Cup but certainly not the best one in my view. I would rate World T20 higher in many aspects. First of all as a Pakistani fan, that world cup gave us so much memories, the team ended Indian winning streak, Shaheen Afridi introduced himself the most intimidating opening bowler, and the entire team was on a great roll of performance and deserving reached to the Semis. T20 2021 was of best opportunity to grab the trophy once again but Australia outplayed us. World T20 2021 was much longer in format and gave us so many memories, loved the theme song as well that was made by Sony India.

The World T20 2022 could have been the best but some crunch matches were affected by Rain, moreover, the pitches were extremely bouncy specially the Melbourne and Perth wickets. So its always tough for Sub-continent teams Pakistan, India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh to bat well in these high bounce conditions. Even then India and Pakistan qualified for the Semis.

The best match of the entire tournament was the game between Pakistan and India. At that time I thought that this World Cup would beat its predecessors but rain effect was too much there.

Talking about teams performance, I would say India, Pakistan, Australia, and South Africa did not play their best cricket. In T20, there is little room for error so that is why an associate or noob team can beat you on an unfortunate day.

Lastly, let's bring in some 50-Overs One Day Internationals. Enough T20Is. :)

When you try to bat like SKY but after failing miserably you come back to you own roots

Turns out 2022 has had the best World Cups of all time (women's ODI and men's T20i). Hopefully they come round more often (good tournaments, not ICC tournaments, they're relentless).

Theory of Relativity!

Not the best by any stretch of imagination. For me, the best one were the 2003 and 2011, purely for the fact that the number of matches impacted by rain, controversy were less. Additionally, the quality of cricket being played was of the highest level, provided an even match between bat and ball. The formats used too, were exciting and brought life to the World Cup.

The WT20 can be compressed into a shorter tournament and should rightly be truncated. There's no use of the Super 12 other than the fact that it serves to appease broadcasters. the very 1st WT20 format was good. However, the ICC has really made a mess of this tournament and it feels too long tbh. For. e.g, playing the semis and finals after a gap of 4 days seems a bit stupid. they could very well do with having both SFs on the same day itself.

I do remember it being very entertaining to watch. Even the IPL next year was slightly boring in contrast.
The century in the opening match by Chris Gayle just endorsed the whole world that this format is all about the blitz and hits. WI easily making 200 and then SA chasing it down with more than 2 overs to spare made it a format where nothing is impossible.

It was a perfect opener to the first ever World T20.

There was also probably lesser pressure back then. It wasn’t viewed as a serious tournament at all before it started.

Not in the best of health this week so I can't type a long paragraph but I just want to sum up the performance of the team I've supported over the years.

As an Indian fan, I've followed almost every game since 2012 WT20 upto the Covid times. So everything is just so etched in me as an Indian supporter. I do tend to get emotional at times regarding how they play. So maybe somewhere I just overexpect or tend to get overexcited at times and claim India as being the contenders every time an ICC event that comes up.

Maybe we do have the strength but we just lack that balance which other teams have or maybe we just lack enough passion. So yes, I am extremely disappointed with India's manner of exit in this tournament but I think they still punched a bit above their weight with the bowling line-up they carried with them.

For Rohit's Captaincy, I don't have the numbers to back him but I guess he did better than most in this WT20 and I don't have anything to point out at. But his reactions have lost me as his fan for sure!

I would also like to appreciate England for winning the Final against Pakistan. It makes me wonder how much strength they possess in their white ball unit. Just 3 months before the tournament started, their Captain had retired! Then Stokes followed with his own and came back. Buttler's Captaincy was all over the place and there were questions over his leadership. The bowling looked toothless. Mark Wood suddenly found form, Hales was brought back and there was so much happening. This was followed with a loss to Ireland and a wash out against Australia. After all of this, I can say they surely deserved to win!!

I was hoping the 'perfect opener' bit was highlighted because it was a link to KL Rahul's Cricinfo page.

You missed out on a rickroll with KL Rahul there. :noway
