Peshawar defend 326 by an achingly narrow margin of 12 runs in an enthralling encounter against a visibly heartbroken Karachi side, who crash out following their loss in this eliminator contest. Having been asked to bat first, Peshawar tussled with Karachi's bowlers until the final 10-15 overs of their innings, where Mohammad Rizwan's ironclad fifty, Shaheen Shah Afridi's blistering cameo and Pat Cummins' undying resilience helped push their total into above-par territory on this batting-haven of a strip.
Aside from Peshawar taking the fight to Karachi in the latter part of their innings, the home team did really well to keep things tidy, especially during the middle overs. Sahibzada Farhan and Mohammad Haris gave Peshawar a solid foundation, but a flurry of breakthroughs, which included the cheap dismissal of Virat Kohli, undermined their start. Karachi's bowlers tightened the noose with Rumman Raees in particular being a standout performer with the ball, finishing the innings with figures of 5 for 67.
Karachi's chase was let off by a domineering first-wicket stand between their southpaws, Quinton de Kock and Saim Ayub. The duo added 145 runs for the first wicket before Usman Khan Shinwari finally broke through to breathe life back into Peshawar's defense. Shan Masood and Saim Ayub added another swift fifty for the following wicket, but that stand was ended abruptly by Shinwari too, who removed the Karachi captain for 26. Saim Ayub was bowled on 97, trying to play Iftikhar Ahmed inside out, missing out on a well-deserved hundred by 3 runs. Despite losing wickets rapidly, Karachi were in a strong position, but they needed their batsmen to carry on with the momentum.
Unfortunately for them, the backbone of their middle-order completely gave in, and Glenn Maxwell and Azam Khan lost their wickets for 4 and 0 runs, respectively. The killing blow for them was the dismissal of Saud Shakeel, who failed to shepherd their tail close to the target, and fell victim to Shaheen Shah Afridi. Anwar Ali showed his glimpses of his former self, but going up against an attack of Peshawar's calibre was way out of bounds, especially without any support whatsoever from the other end.
Peshawar's bowlers chipped away the tail, eventually bowling Karachi out 12 runs short of the target in heartbreaking manner. Perhaps, Mir Hamza and Abrar Ahmed could've seen them home, but Mohammad Rizwan's relentless aggression coupled with some cunning part-time offbreak from Iftikhar Ahmed did the trick for Peshawar.
