2025 ICC Champions Trophy - General Discussions

Happy for KL Rahul and Shami have been a part of group in last 10 years.

Both missed out in 2024 WT20 finally getting their hands on the trophy.

Good win, closely fought final and contested between the 2 best sides of the tournament.

I had said it previously as well, this Indian side just needs one ICC win to dominate the game. We won in 2024 and do seem unstoppable now. Akin to what Australia was in the early 2000s.

I see a few posts calling out the Dubai advantage, but here's a reality check- the ICC KO 98,2000 were held on the same grounds, but the teams didn't manage to drive home the advantage. England played the first 3 World Cups at home, but didn't win any. Sri Lanka and SA played on the same grounds in CT 2002 and 2009, but no one batted an eyelid- so why cry when India dominates?

Cause the ones crying are either the ones who won 0 matches this tournament as visitor or 0 matches as home side! Yikes!

One of them played 2 matches in same venue back to back and could not win plus they have been in Indian subcontinent for last 3 months and have won 0 matches and other atleast can moan about having to come to Dubai where they played 6-7 years of cricket as home side.

For them conditions > talent and its true as they dont have much.

Home advantage is a real thing in a sport where conditions matter a lot, but I've always maintained that having home advantage (or extreme familiarity in this case) doesn't automatically translate into victory for the "home" team.

My gripe has always been with how India bullied Pakistan out of hosting the tournament and played their matches in Dubai, including two of the three knockouts. Shit, even the trophy was presented to Rohit Sharma by Jay Shah when it should've a PCB executive since it's a home event for the PCB. And, this might rub people the wrong way, but I have an even bigger gripe with the Indian fans who have gone on to defend and undermine the BCCI's pull instead of criticizing their own board because they're too blinded by their jingoistic views.

Whenever an Indian fan brings up the Pakistan CT fiasco and sides with Pakistan, there's always a "but" at the end of their point. "India should've gone to Pakistan, but it is what it is.", "in a just world the tournament would've taken place without India since they're the only ones complaining about security, but the BCCI is too big to sit out the tournament and for it to be profitable in the slightest". All these buts as if we don't already know. All your doing is playing devils advocate for no reason, and it colours you in a bad light.

There is no denying this current Indian side is probably the most talented, versatile and complete side in at least the ODI format. The calls for India's 2023 WC side being THE greatest ODI WC side were not unjustified, but when you have a board that goes out of its way to facilitate a team as talented as this, it does undermine what they've achieved in most people's views. You win and it's the most shallow victory imaginable, you lose and it's the most ridiculous bottlejob imaginable.

Regardless, I hope Pakistan gets to host a proper ICC event once in my lifetime. It seems bleak and damn near impossible at this moment, but umeed per dunya qaim hai.

PCB should have stood up to the bullying BCCI/ICC, in an ideal situation given India’s past with Pakistan they should have not been allowed to be part of the tournament.

I’m repeating the same thing over and over since IPL started, have them play IPL whole year, let them enjoy themselves and the rest of the world continue Test and ODI cricket.

International Cricket may collapse if that were to happen Not an ideal scenario from the BCCI's POV. As a board, they can't take in the monies by only relying on the IPL. The pull of the national team is too huge for something of this sort to happen.

I don't get the presentation ceremony at all. Why didn't Ramiz Raja take the mic instead of Bishop? None of the PCB officials were present at the ground as well- ideally should have been one among them on the dias.

Lastly, why couldn't they simply hand over both the blazers and the medal at the same time? My take on the blazers- doesn't make sense at all. They were introduced in 2013 when the tournament was held in England. The same trend continued on in 2017 as well. However, with Pakistan as the hosts, they could have given a hand woven jacket or a turban or something- reminiscent of the hosts?

2009 1st time that white blazers were introduced not 2013.

My bad! Then again, South Africa as host (originally supposed to be Pakistan though), the blazers were a novelty, but doesn't seem like a grand thing to be given out. I would understand if the ICC hands out blazers for the WTC winners. For ODIs though, seems out of sorts in many ways.

So what we’ve established in the last 11 years is that India can only win ICC trophies when playing finals against chokers like South Africa and New Zealand :p

Better to win against the chokers and have 7 trophies to show for then be embarrassed and show 0 wins against even the so called chokers at home in a home tournament :p
