The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy was the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, a 50-over international cricket tournament.
It was hosted by Pakistan for the first time in its history and was contested by a record TWENTY teams holding ODI status at the time.
Having cancelled the tournament after the previous edition in 2017, the ICC reinstated the Champions Trophy after an 8-year gap.
ICC repackaged it from an eight-team, single round-robin affair to its original knockout format and opened it to all teams with ODI status.
Pakistan entered the tournament as the defending champions, having trounced India in the final of the 2017 edition at The Oval.
It was the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan since the 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup, and also the first ICC event hosted solely.
