You can use enter on your keyboard then enter again or p to bring up the menu. You can navigate the menus with the keyboard, just need controller for the gameplay.

I have somehow finally got it to work thanks.

Can i use the same id i had on xbox to sign into academy on pc?

Unfortunately not. You'll need a new login for PC. I would suggest uploading all your Xbox teams you've created to the academy and then redownloading them to your PC by searching for your xbox username...
