Lol, I'm in a bit of a problem here. I want to upgrade my graphics card (its currently internal), but there is no PCI Express or AGP slot in the CPU. Are there any cards that fit in normal pci slots or is there a way to convert pci slots into pci express/agp slots.

Its one of those bad IBM think centers btw, 1gb ram, 96 mb graphics card, 2.6 ghz p4 ht processesor...

Answers will be appreciated

No AGP, NO PCI-E? Yet those good amounts of RAM?

Sorry mate, you just have to change your motherboard (And I would recommend picking up a cheap E2160 too), because 1. Only PCI-E cards are worth buying today, 2. You don't even have AGP slots! :laugh

Tell me your budget and your monitor size and I'll give you the exact models to go for in India. :)

Well I need a new motherboard then, which means I need a new cpu box. I will ask the computer guys at the store for the E2160 :cheers

PS, I'm in Australia. You probably don't know the stores here. Doesn't matter anyway.

Reps to you Kshitiz

Its not about reps, its about giving help where I can. ;)

You better not get anything lower than a P35 chipset motherboard, because any thing lower than that and you're doomed for 2 years. :p :)

Thanks and I will just ask on the first motherboard you suggested. :cheers. Also any specific case or will a generic one do. I want something that looks stylish. I looked up some, and one of the coolermaster ones look ok. Is there like a specific one for that motherboard though?

If you want a stylish case then you have to go branded cases. Look for the likes of Antec, cooler master etc. ;)

Also, make sure the P35 board you get is NOT the Intel BOXD one. They don't have OC features - you're best of buying an Asus P35 board or a Gigabyte P35 board. :)

Get a Gigabyte board. Asus are recommended as much as Gigabyte these days, but Gigabyte have a better website for downloading drivers and getting info, so that's the 1% extra. I've got a fairly fancy P35-based motherboard right now that cost about $150ish, but you should be able to get a decent one for $120 or less. In terms of selecting a motherboard, you might want to take note of the number of hard drives in your computer that you want to keep, as the newer motherboards have more SATA hard drive plugs and only one of the older ribbon cable ATA plugs.

You're probably going to have to get some new RAM, but that's not too expensive, you can get 2GB for about $50. A cheap Core 2 Duo can be found for under $100. An educated guess would say you definitely need a new case and new power supply unit for all this new hardware. Cases start from around $50 and you can get a decent case with a PSU included for as low as $70.

That of course is just to get you to the point of considering a new graphics card! There's a lot of scope in there, but I figure if you haven't had to upgrade yet, you're not looking for a video card that can render games like Crysis in maximum detail. I would say you could be looking at a $200 card max, something like a Geforce 9600GT, which might be as low as $160.

All in all, it's about a $500 upgrade, but you could probably keep trimming costs if that doesn't float your boat. It helps a LOT to have a friend who knows exactly what they're doing, because that can save you a few mistakes.

I've just one suggestion in angryangry's post. If you're going in for Sub $200 graphic cards, you better go for the newly released 4850, it has almost 2x the performance of the 9600GT. Better value for money by miles. :)

fhew u atleast applauded Radeon cards once :p

one thing to mention Kshitiz Radeon HD4850 is not only better than 9600GT it also beats Geforce 9800GTX & Geforce 260GTX.

Yup go for Radeon HD4850 if you have a budget around 200$ and if you have around 300$ then for the Radeon HD4870. I would recommend to wait for Sapphire to release toxic editions for both cards.
