SOUTH AFRICA BLOWN AWAY BY GAYLE

Gayle seals his century by smashing a 6
South Africa began their tour of the West Indies with a 7 wicket defeat mainly due to one man. West Indies captain Chris Gayle executed a fantastic batting display with an unbeaten 103 off 43 balls. With West Indies needing 162 to win, Gayle and co set off at a blistering pace to reach the target with just under 3 overs remaining. The only other noticable knock was by Chanderpaul, who fell for 35 runs off 25 balls. This victory puts West Indies 1-0 up in the 2 match 20/20 series and provides a confidence boost going into the next match.
With West Indies winning the toss and electing to field, South Africa knew they needed to set a good total to defend. However, things almost got to off to an awful start with just the first delivery of the day as captain Graeme Smith nearly went for a first ball duck by edging a Roach delivery only to be dropped. West Indies were wondering whether this was a missed opportunity as the South African captain battered through the opening bowlers. But in the 5th over of the day, Smith was out after slicing a Sammy delivery behind to be caught by none other that Chris Gayle. After this, the South African innings started to lose momentum with only 5 runs scored in the next 2 overs.
In stepped Jaques Kallis, who also provided a brilliant batting display after a knock off 51 off 33 balls along with Bosman's 26 off 38, and helped South Africa to 100 before Bosman got caught off the bowling of Taylor. When both Kallis and De Villiers went out, South Africa were on just 123/4 with 3 overs left. However, a quick fire 28 from Duminy gave South Africa a reasonable total of 161/4.
West Indies chased the total fairly easily, but were made to sweat early on when at 54/2 Gayle was dropped by Duminy, which proved to be a costly mistake. Gayle raced to his 50 in no time, and when he finally got his 100 he did it in the best possible way. Smashing a short delivery over the boundary for 6. In the end it was up to Pollard to hit the winning runs as West Indies gained a 1-0 in the 20/20 series.
