Okay guys, I need patience understanding and most of all HELP!!!. My wife is South African and her Mom just gave me Cricket 2005 for the PC.

I think I've got the bowling down. My first match I held Middlesex to 125 runs in 50 overs. (Please pardon if I misuse terms) But I can't get the ball to travel more than a few feet off the pitch when batting.

I can defend the wickets. They only got one past me to knock over a wicket. It's very frustrating.

I'm not sure what shots to try to play for the various bowls. Can someone please give me a brief run down of what to try when the ball is bowled close/far/middle, inside/outside and fast/slow.

I can work on my timing, but out of 50 overs, I got one hit out of the immediate area of the pitch. I'm not sure how I did that. Thanks.

Hey, good to see an American interested in cricket!

My guess is that you may not be using the correct buttons, and certainly timing needs to be worked on. Make sure you are playing on the Easy level, and spend time in the training nets. Batting is somewhat more difficult in this particular version of the game, and you should not expect to be able to hit the ball out of the park all the time. Use all the shots at your disposal, including the advance button shots.

There may be a few people in this forum who actually live in the US and if possible, you might even get to talk to them over the phone while on the computer and get pointers right away on playing better. Any volunteers who can help him?

but i do play for a team in another community

Well, if it is a half-volley, or full toss, SMASH away, you can play almost ANY shot you want. What I do is defend the good balls, and smash the bad ones, it works for me.

In bowling, you need to just be consistent with your line and length, around the middle of the pitch. If you can consistently make the batsmen earn their runs very slowly, they will play bad shots soon.

If you look around the forum, there are plenty of tips.

Let me find a control manual, its here somewhere.

This should help you mate :

The ea default AI is horrible, The ones the patchers have released are amazing and will help out a newbie or pro.

Try here for my patches.

I have a beginners patch as well as my Reallistic and Challenging ones so if your having difficulty then give the Beginners one a go

Also, to install them, just drag the .fsh or .big file to your Cricket 2005 folder. The default is C:\Program Files\EA Sports\EA SPORTS Cricket 2005
