April 2 - India v Sri Lanka - The Final!

Media have mellowed down? Just tonight, I saw a local news channel comparing the game with Raam-Raavana War (!), and airing live footages of temples where people are worshipping, and doing 'yagnas' for an Indian victory. Others, like Times Now and CNN-IBN, have been ceaselessly debating about the final ever since India beat Pakistan. Even Lata Mangeskar, the singing legend, who fasted for team India in the last match, is now praying for Sachin's 100th hundred in the final. If anything, the public frenzy has escalated to a ridiculous high.

I hope India are able to stay focused amidst all the public euphoria. I hope Dhoni doesn't make any captaincy blunders this time, and doesn't commit the cardinal sin of picking Sreesanth instead of Ashwin. This is their chance to curve out a place for them in the history of cricket. If this team manages to win the Cup, they will literally be immortalized by the fans.

Compared to the Previous match, this is nothing!
they were reporting non-stop even during the opening match between india and bangladesh.

its not the quantity, but the madness, life and death / the war type of situation that was witnessed pre-semis.

tonight's debates are all about whos more balanced, pick your favourite, sachin and murali farewell game etc unlike the ind-pak clash where it was more than just cricket!

India-Pak, what else you can expect? Now, it is Ind-Sri. Completely different, but the hype and expectations are the same.

True. but india and sri lanka in the past 2-3 years have played so much cricket with each other, theres nothing new or exciting left to be discovered. It definitely doesnt have the intense rivalry shared with AUS or PAK.

i was completely rooting for india during the QFs and SFs. now, i have resorted to "May the best team win!"

My predicted squads for bot the teams:-

INDIA

S Tendulkar
V Sehvag
G Gambhir
V KOhli
Y Singh
S Raina
M S Dhoni
R Ashwin
H Singh
Z Khan
M Patel

SRI LANKA

T Dilshan
U Tharanga
K Sangakkara
M Jayawardene
C Kapugedara
T Samarveera
S Randiv
T Parrera
M Muralitharan
L Malinga
A Mendis

All the best to both the teams. :cheers

Well then you speak for yourself and not the rest of us :).

I got to say, this must be the friendliest tread if there is any in a world cup final.

@ jkartik :cheers mate. may the best team win :thumbs

when did i say my opinion was the voice of india ?
just expressing certain things that i've observed, witnessed and experienced.

also, feels good in a way to take out that jingoistic attitude in me and be sportive for a change.

SRL were the 2nd fav time for me in this WC. so, all the more reason to treat it as a sport and not the end of the world.

A Thriller is all i need. doesnt matter who wins ;)

I don’t know why people fight, say rude things, and insult people anyway. After all it’s a game and like in any game, any one can loss as the other one wins.
If you have not insulted or be rude to the opposing fans before the match, even if you loss, you can come to the tread and feel good in talking to fans, congratulate one another!!! Sport is always about bringing people together, and the opponent is never an enemy but adversaries !!!

^^ Have you now started to realize that? :rolleyes

Would love to see Sachin Tendulkar end on a high note

Really bad that Mathews is out of the squad for Sri Lanka, but Randiv has done well in the Sri Lankan domestic league so I really hope he can bring in those performances to Mumbai tomorrow and handle the pressure!

Line up will probably be:
Tharanga
Dilshan
Sanga
Mahela
Samare
Kapu
Thisara
Randiv
Kule
Malinga
Murali :yes

I fear the opening pair of India! Sehwag and Tendulkar have been really hard to get out for Sri Lanka in the past, Yuvraj as well! Luckily Dhoni is out of form so if Sri Lanka can get pas Gambhir maybe, then Sri Lanka will be on top I think. Can't imagine India's youngsters handle the pressure (same with Sri Lanka).

Big blow for SL losing Matthews, he provided that middle order with the stability it has been lacking and can also hit out when needed.
The Indian batting is starting to deliver, Kohil has gone quiet of late so he might be due another big knock.
