As an Australian Cricket Fan I'm disgusted...

hello man with no name :p

Sohum, it's not a matter of us being perfectly cleansed of racism, it's a matter of all countries have racist people, yet only some are warned for this.

Racism, like you say, happens everywhere, yet Australia was the country warned, and not India.

You should be disgusted... that there are Australian fans that are racist. If you are going to claim that in your whole country there is not a single racist cricket fan that goes to the game, or rather, a cricket fan that makes racial comments at a game, then there is no point in taking your words seriously from this point.

Racist abuse happens everywhere in the world. Give people a little bit of alcohol and all the prejudices/thoughts they have inside will come out one by one. As for the direct relation with Indian, crowds, you can look up the thread that was already created for and discussed this topic.
Yes, but for some reason Australia has been targeted by the ICC more than any other country. We're being warned that if any of our fans are racist that our grounds might lose ICC Status. While India has received....what punishment exactly?

The only notable racial problem in Australia recently was when South Africa toured. And it was actually South Africans who were doing it, yet for some reason we got blamed...

We heckle opposition players, but it never has anything to do with race.
I always get annoyed with this. Why is heckling the players alright (and I don't mean teasing), but having a racial slur in it any worse ?

Making monkey chants is racist?

mate...y people call monkey chants or antics as racisim.....i am indian and im living in india..people refer a person as monkey or dog to annoy them or to make fun of them...that has nuttin to do wit racisim ...

the crowd annoyed symonds because he was top run scorrer in the series..it has nutthin do wit symonds origin or his color

my friends often call symonds as predator..coz he has the long braided hair

Calling a black person a monkey is about as racist as you can get. I'd like to see you go up to the next black person and call him a monkey and not get your face smashed in.

It's racist over here and in Australia should the Indian fans who did it not have taken that into account?

Looks like we're going to do this all over again. Pray tell me how the Indians could take into account something that they didn't know about? That's like me asking you to take into consideration my class schedule before you post on Planetcricket.

If you read the "Symonds was racially abused" thread, you would notice that there was a considerable amount of evidence presented that the abuse hurled at Symonds was not definitely racial. And you would also notice that the Indian authorities did treat the abuse seriously and went ahead and arrested the offenders.

Secondly, the reason Australia was warned and not India because multiple teams have filed multiple reports of being at the receiving end of racism from Australian crowds, which is not the case with India.

I always get annoyed with this. Why is heckling the players alright (and I don't mean teasing), but having a racial slur in it any worse ?
This is how society has developed... why would calling a Caucasian or Asian a monkey not be interpreted as negatively as calling someone of African descent one?

And how are you classifying "black people"? Is it someone of darker skin, someone of African origin, what? The classification itself can be contrived to be racial. Again, I ask you how you can possibly hold someone responsible for something that they have no idea about.

Don't drag me in to it. You know full well what a black person is and calling them a monkey is racist. There's no qualms to be had about it. I'm not putting responsibility on anyone, i'm saying that calling a black man a monkey is racist. I've not once brought anything else into this.

No, I actually had no clue before the Symonds fiasco that calling a black person a monkey was racist. And I am more educated and more exposed to different races than the average Indian so it is not really surprising to me that many Indians would not know that their abuse would be (incorrectly) read to be racist.

You can't possibly believe every Indian is ignorant to the racist undertones behind calling a Black person a monkey?

Again, why is being racist worse than being rude and heckling in other ways? I'm not at all condoning either, I'm just wondering why people get wound up when a guy is being racist but not when one guy calls another a frickin b******d .

because it's just the way it is, people pick on someone with their skin colour is just bad.. worse then B%%tard..

Because heckling is light hearted most of the times (Well, it is in England anyway) but there is nothing light hearted about racism.
