I've just started playing Ashes 2009.
I don't know if people know about this yet or if it is unique to my system but I have discovered a trick that boosts my framerate dramatically.
I have noticed that when I have the program 'FRAPS' running, my fps in Ashes is much higher than normal.
The game was so jerky as to be nearly unplayable not to mention the loading times were really long. Anyway, I turned on FRAPS to see if I could get a decent framerate while playing around with the graphics options. I noticed immediately that the game ran very smooth (30-60 fps) once I had FRAPS running and that was with max graphics at 1280x960 (0xAA) on a 4 year old computer. I turned off fraps and it was jerky again (i would guess 10-20 fps)
So, now every time I play the game I just load up FRAPS before hand (and disable the frame rate counter so its not a distraction)
Also, as i said, the menu loading times are quicker too!
I seem to recall this trick working with another game a few years ago. I think it was a racing game.
My computer is WinXP, Pentium D 3.0GHZ(x2), 2 GB RAM, GeForce 8600GT
