I'm intrigued by this and plan to ask a software engineer (I'd guess this is his department) about why and how this works... (and why it doesnt work for some people).

Maybe it's all psychological and people just think its working better :p

Nope, FRAPS gives visible proof. :D :p

Thanks a million.. The fix seemed ridiculous but works like a charm.. I was really frustrated, not being able to play the game on my GTS250 after a couple of months of smooth running, but this fix really did it!! Thanks a lot!!

Sorry for a second post..
Analyzing the lag and jerk problems..
First the game ran absolutely smoothly for a couple of months..
Then I decided to stop being lazy and started killing crappy processes running on my pc..
And the next time I started the game I experienced terrible lags and jerks and so stopped playing it for a while and googled to no avail until I found this..
So, the details go as follows:

First I used the method mentioned in the OP which worked very well until I closed the game and started again.. This caused the same lag and jerks..
So, I closed it , closed the media player and stopped wmpnetwk.exe.
Then I repeated the original process and it worked fine.. No issues use ALT+TAB while gaming..
My Sys config:
Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
PhenomIIx3 720
GTS250 1GB
(Hope it helps!!)

Worked for me. Reduced lag during opening stadium view and replays.
Earlier I had to rename Video folder to prevent crash while opening game.
Looks like unoptimized Audio/Video codecs causing these issues.
I'm using unpatched game. on 1600x900 resolution with everything to max.
I have low end gaming comp.
E5200 Dual Core Cpu (2.5 Gz)
4 GB DDR2-800 MHz Kingston Value Ram
512 MB Leadtek 9600GT Graphic Card

Wow allrounder 18 this trick really works. Thx was getting annoyed with lags when the bowler used to bowl as a result was not able to get perfect timing. Now its improved drastically. the key is to play a track in wmp in repeat mode so that it never ends.
