England propose change in Ashes scheduling
Cricinfo staff
October 21, 2006

In an effort to boost their chances of winning the World Cup, the England Cricket Board (ECB) has proposed a change in the scheduling of the Ashes series in future, suggesting that it be brought forward by a year to give them more time to plan for the World Cup.
...
England head back to Australia next month in a bid to defend the Ashes for the first time in 20 years, just three months before the World Cup in the West Indies
Now, without being biased, it's obvious to say ODI Cricket isn't Englands strong point at the moment. So to me this seems like a pathetic whinge. How the hell is 3 months not long enough? Especially when after the Ashes they play the VB Series (or whatever it's called now) which is an ODI series against 2 strong teams. What better preperation could you want?!

Don't hear Australia complaining, they are almost in the same boat. Except they don't have the burden of being the touring side.

I agree. Australia have to undergo exactly the same schedule and they haven't said a word. England should stop focusing in schedule changes and start focusing on how to win bloody ODI's. If England really want to win the World Cup, then actually learning how to play ODI's might be a good idea.

Schedules may be very similar, but being 12,000 miles away from home is tough.

I think it's more to do with Mental toughness rather than Phsyical Strength.

Indeed, Cricket is more a mind game than a physical one ;)

Oi you do you want me to hit you with a fresh wet trout? :D

I find your avatar demeaning to No11s all around the world. He did hit McGrath for 4 through off sqaure remember.

There's a big mental challenge in a long tour on the other side of the world away from family.

On top of the fact that no matter what we do it every year.
