MATCH REPORT
Pidgeon Poos on Duke's
AUSTRALIA played the Duke's XI at Hove in Sussex in the first tour match of the Ashes series yesterday.

The first punch was thrown by Australia winning the toss, and electing to field first. It was a good choice, with both the Duke's XI opening batsmen being dismissed within 14 deliveries. McGrath claimed both wickets. A solid 40 run partnership was made by Salman Butt & Habibul Bashar before Salman Butt got an Inside edge onto the stumps. As Habibul Bashar and Alok Kapali were given out, the Duke's XI tail crumbled, with the last 6 batsmen contributing only 29 runs, and the last 6 wickets falling for only 26 runs. Australia restricted the Duke's XI to only 120 runs, off 42 overs.

Australia batted extremely well notching up 50 runs in just 6 overs. Duke's XI first struck in the 9th overs, claiming the wicket of Adam Gilchrist for only 33 runs, caught in the covers driving. Nothing was going the Duke's way, dropping Ricky Ponting when he was on 12. Australia battled their way to 100 in 14.1 overs. Hyaden was the last of the Australia wickets to fall, falling 8 runs short of his half century.

Australia next head over to Northampton to play the Northants.
