Atul Sharma: Fastest Bowler in the world

Probably because no-one had heard of him until recently, he was spotted playing Tape Ball cricket, so wouldn't have ever been picked for the India U19's squad. He'd have done Ontong 9 times out of 10 with that delivery as well, was a corker. He'd have done for alot of class players with that ball, was a really quick, swinging yorker. Made both Manee and me leap up as it took out middle stump, was a jaffer.
Is Ian Pont going to teach you how to ball jaffers like that?

I don't need teaching. I do it already, you'll get one when we're both playing in The Ashes ;) Also, you know Ian Pont isn't coaching Khan don't you?

:laugh

Kamran Khan not even good enough to make the Indian u19s squad thats touring Australia at the moment.

He's bowled one over of professional cricket, in which he got a wicket with a blitzing yorker. He's from the worst depths of Poverty in India, desperate to help his family get along he pursued cricket. He slept in trains all over country going to cricket trials from every corner of UP to Chennai to Mumbai to Delhi, not able to afford hotels he slept on the train platforms. Give the guy a break, man.

The guy's got a heck of alot of talent as well. I think he's a big prospect. If he can bowl at 140k's with his physique, then imagine how quick he could bowl with abit of muscle! Warney rates him as well, so he must have quite abit of talent!

When I heard 'Kamran Khan, I thought "Oh well, Pakistan gets another fast bowler" but then I remembered "Wait, Pakistan players are not playing in IPL, so he must be from India".

Its encouraging that India is unearthing some seriously quick fast bowlers (Atul Sharma, Kamran Khan, etc). Hope either of these guys solve our third seamer problem and give some respite for Zaheer and Ishant.

From train stations to five star hotels huh?

If this guy ends up being a big hit in the IPL it'll be a true rags to riches story!

I'm still interested in Atul Sharma though. I want to know how he could perform without ever bowling to a batsmen in like 6 years or something.

Is every second Indian a Sharma?

It looks like the Indian version of Smith.

Nah, Patel is more common :p.

Haha, how cool would this be? Indian opening bowlers - Khan and Sharma. 1st and 2nd change - Khan and Sharma :D.

(someone posted it on another forum, but i'll take credit for the hi-larious-ness here ;):p)

I am a little worried for these 'extreme poverty' guys because I am not sure if they will keep their heads down when they are flooded with all these goodies after they start playing big time cricket. Munaf is one such guy, and he hasnt shown promise after his debut where he rocked England at Mohali.

well its all about what kind of person he is and how he was raised. I mean if he is willing to sleep in train stations just to get his shot at some money to help the family I'm sure he will keep his head straight.

But in similar situations, people like Shoaib Akhtar aren't able to keep their head straight, although they have gone through similar situations (well I don't think he ever slept at train stations, but he was quite poor)

Same thing with Mohammad Asif.

it's just a twist in the grand game of destiny that Atul Sharma, the supreme second coming of Christ, has chosen his time of entry into the mortal world at a time when the chief asuras are down licking their wounds from the comfort of their own caves. Had he debuted 6 or 7 years back, there would have been no King Ponting, and Matt Hayden would be a mere footnote in the cricketing archives better known for his culinary skills.
