Atul Sharma has done a runner

Now I wonder with the RR contract... there was an Atul Sharma on the RR team but he was always listed on Cricinfo as being a wicketkeeper.

I wonder if this is an elaborately planned con on the part of both Pont and "Sharma" to increase the exposure to Pont's coaching or whether it was a con on the part of an actual Atul Sharma. Yay, conspiracy theories!

That was a mistake with the Cricinfo database. The official IPL site had Atul listed at the correct age and as a fast bowler. It's only now that Pont has come out and said that Atul never actually signed a Royals contract, just that Modi had him put onto the Royals roster. Pretty sure he said that Atul never actually met up with the Royals squad, due to injury. I'm certain that this isn't a con by Pont or Sharma, and that Sharma is capable of bowling at 90mph+, just that Sharma's been reluctant, for whatever reason to play a game.

The old thread was locked for some reason, which makes it stupid opening this one, but oh well.

I was going to post this a few weeks ago, but unfortunately I found the locked thread only. So now I'm opening this.

From Ian Pont himself:

Just to close the chapter on Atul Sharma for everyone who has shown interest.

I would like to apologise to everyone here for what has appeared to be someone who has tricked everyone over his intentions - including me.

Apart from disappearing owing me money, fans also know that Mr Sharma did not play in the IPL and the Rajasthan Royals confirmed he never showed up, nor did he sign a contract with them. He has vanished.

I do not wish to be associated with Mr Sharma and fully regret being taken in by someone who even calls himself ''Conman'' on Skype.

Any unhappy fans can ask Mr Sharma himself (+919821330812, [email protected]) why he did this to Indian cricket supporters. Good luck getting a response.

I am happy this person is out of my life but sad it cost me a lot of money and heartache in the end. I will never trust people again.

From Indian Cricket forums or something. Interesting to give his number and email out, good work. Lost all respect for Atul now, was excited to see him bowl his 160k or whatever it was bowling, but he's just ruined everything now.

Wow, that is very unprofessional by Mr Pont, and I smell a rat.

I'm slightly amused by all this. In this day and age, if that is indeed Sharma's cell phone number, it would not be very difficult at all to be able to track him (that is if it is on and in usage).

Even if it isn't currently on, you can still trace where it was last turned on and connected to a tower.

Secondly, any computer hacker worth their salt (and I'm talking hardcore here) could be able to figure out which IP he signs onto the [email protected] e-mail account (if he still checks it). As far as I'm aware, AOL accounts are not that difficult to compromise.

Thirdly, if he's ever been on Skype again, you can check again which IP he's signing in from. From what I can see, I'd say Mr. Sharma isn't aware of proxys or anything of the sort (a normal computer user) so it would be a safe bet that it is his IP.

An array of options really...

And no, I can't do any of that stuff :laugh but I know there are people who can easily do it.

Of course, I suspect that the whole Atul Sharma bowling at 160 kph+ is all a myth and he was hyped up by Pont. If you notice in the ICF thread, he says that he never saw Sharma bowl at 160 kph+, and he only had Sharma and the coaches in the US and India's word that he can bowl at 160 kph+.

Pretty simple really:

-Atul Sharma was never able to bowl as quick as said
-Signing to a IPL team was done to build hype
-Getting injured just before the IPL kicked off, wow what a suprise

Never believed it for a second and anyone with half a brain could see this turning out to be nothing else then a big drama.

:laugh

Indian bowlers can not bowl more than 152 km. And that speed was also on flawed speed gun.

How easily you believed this story is unbelievable.

The closest indian fast bowler I seen in recent times is Ishant Sharma when he peaked 150's during the tour to australia...........

He hit 152.7kph in an ODI, the fastest ball ever bowled by an Indian, IIRC. I could be wrong, as I didn't check, just outta memory.

iirc it was Nehra who clocked 152 in Durban, during that spell against England in the 03 WC.
