Australian Domestic Cricket

An interesting sub-plot in the final for me will be the performances of Copeland & Hilfenhaus.

If Hilfy has a top game he COULD still maintain his position as AUS # 1 swing bowler. But if Copeland does, he could take over that spot for Hilfy for AUS next test tour.

Quantity has hurt quality: Katich

Interesting point raised by Katman here.

Cricket World Cup | Ricky Ponting pained by Shield figures

Yes it certainly has been a worry to see how many low scores shield teams are getting bowled out for -ESPECIALLY this season. I dont recall every following an AUS FC season & seeing this happen.

I'm just not sure. There have been years where batsmen made runs, but the batting wasn't massively impressive, just the quality of pitches. McDonald, Khawaja, Marsh and Rogers spending a lot of time injured probably doesn't help and for all Ponting's whinging, I'm not sure he would have been one of the leading run scorers this summer either.

It does put an * next to most of the pace bowlers this season. James Hopes had a good season but you wouldn't expect him to do much in the Test arena. So it's hard to gague how a Copeland or Butterworth would go at the next level. Of course only one way to find out and I'd say one of them deserve a crack. On the other hand, the batsmen that have stood up this season have done very well for themselves.

Just remembered the final is on, a few balls before lunch. Will try to keep an eye on it today since the weather is ████. NSW batting first and 3/121 after 32. Hughes 55* and Katich just arrived at the crease.

Damn, Hughes and Warner opening stand of 88, good fightback by Tassie to have us 3 down.

Hughes brings up his 10th first class hundred, 102* off 196 balls.
Katich going even slower with 27 off 72.

3/201 at tea, hopefully they'll finish the next session with a bang.

Katich really opening up this session, now 76 off 115.. scoring at more than a run a ball since tea.
Hughes taking it easy and was on 110 a few moments ago.

~186 run partnership finally broken as Katich falls for 96, with stumps just 3 overs away. 4/307 currently with the night watchman in.

Gutted to lose Katich so close to stumps. If Coyte can get through tonight, he'll be a handful tomorrow as he is more than capable with the bat. Congrats to Hughes, hes starting to get back to that consistency that brought him selection.

Ugh and now Hughes gone too.. Lost 3 wickets late in the first session and 2 more massive ones before stumps :facepalm

Hilfenhaus has taken his dreadful form back to Shield cricket...he's hardly taken a wicket all summer...and worse still...hardly looked like taking a wicket all summer.

All he has done is trundle in and try to bowl the same ball over and over again, he has no plan, and his stock ball is not a wicket taking one.

I don't think they were as fast as Hilfy

Gone to the fence faster too :p
Faulkner pace is about the same as the Big Bash then, Butterworth would be pushing it but if he can get a few more wickets in this match then he is definitely a chance for our next tour. We probably can only afford one bowler that is below or around the 130 mark so he'll be competing against Copeland.
