INTERNATIONAL FIXTURES
1st Test: Day One - Australia v India
Sehwag fires in mediocre Indian performance
December 26, 2007

Australia 307 for 4 (Hayden 83, Jaques 73, Kumble 3-70) v India

matthewhayden4bp1.jpg

Australian opener Matthew Hayden has continued his stellar MCG form with a fantastic half-century to lead Australia to a dominant position at stumps of day one of the first test against India as Australia began their campaign to retain the Border-Gasvaskar Trophy. Hayden was sensational in his innings of 83 before he was removed by Indian captain Anil Kumble trying to loft a drive through cover. Hayden was well-supported by fellow opener Phil Jaques who posted his highest test score of 73 as the two combined for a 157-run opening stand on a lifeless MCG track. Indian openers Zaheer Khan and RP Singh toiled early without any hint of movement before Kumble struck thrice in ten overs to remove Hayden first, and then finding the outside edge of Jaques to hand Rahul Dravid a simple chance at first slip. Mike Hussey failed to make a start as he departed for five as Aakash Chopra took a simple chance at bat-pad.

Simon Katich, who was selected ahead of an injured Michael Clarke, made the most of his chance with his ninth test half-century to be unbeaten on 54 at stumps. Katich combined with Andrew Symonds for an unbroken 115-run stand to dig Australia out of trouble following the dismissal of captain Ricky Ponting to Zaheer Khan for sixteen. In selection news, Clarke was not passed fit after suffering his ankle complaint before the 3rd ODI against New Zealand whilst the selectors also preferred Brad Hogg over speedster Shaun Tait. India's Harbhajan Singh was declared fit after recovering from his injury against Pakistan whilst Irfan Pathan missed out as the Indian selectors gave Chopra a chance to perform at the top of the order.

Great work mate. Aussies going along very strongly, as you would expect. India need to get Symonds and Katich quickly.

Keep up his great work, I'm really becoming a fan of this story

INTERNATIONAL FIXTURES
Tour Match - New Zealand v Bangladesh
How ton sinks tourists
December 26, 2007

New Zealand 196 for 3 (How 105*, Taylor 45*, Mortaza 2-32) beat Bangladesh 193 for 9 (Shakib 63, Patel 3-33) by seven wickets

jamiehow1an5.jpg

A century to 26 year old Kiwi opener Jamie How has lead the hosts to a commanding seven wicket win over Bangladesh in the 1st ODI at Eden Park. Chasing just 194 for victory, How paced his innings well to finish 105* in 153 deliveries after the Kiwis slumped to 2-31 early. How found support in the form of Ross Taylor who raced to 45* in 54 balls to set up the comfortable win with 26 balls to spare. Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful won the toss and elected to bat but was sorely let down by his top order. The Kiwi attack kept great line and length to restrict the visitors - Jeetan Patel the pick of the bowlers with 3-33 in nine overs whilst Kyle Mills kept it tight with figures of 2-32 in ten overs.
