Welcome to the Australian Premier League awards night. Tonight we will give away plenty of vCash, a sneak preview will be given for next season and the line-ups will be announced for the All-stars match. But first I'd like to start by congratulating all the teams who have made it into the finals, and now let's get straight into the awards.
First up we'll have a last minute entry to the awards night, which is the
Maximum Effort award. The Maximum Effort award is awarded to the team that collectively hit the most 6's throughout the regular season.
The winners are the
Canberra Super Crushers with 48 maximums (refer the count below)
Code:
[B]Canberra Super Crushers - 48[/B]
Newcastle Nanobots - 47
Melbourne Mayhem - 46
Sydney CC - 44
Cairns Dominators - 41
Adelaide Razorbacks - 39
Geelong Gladiators - 38
Perth Panthers - 37
Gold Coast Crusaders - 36
Brisbane Bears - 35
Hobart Heroes - 35
Darwin Destroyers - 33
Now, for the
Knock of the Season award, which is awarded to the man who performed the most inspirational innings of the season. In
Round 7 on a poorly prepared Gold Coast pitch, the Melbourne Mayhem were set a very decent chase of 232, but it was the heroics of one
Ricky Ponting who stood up amongst the pack scoring a glorious 104 off 108 balls before being dismissed. His stunning performance lead Melbourne to a 4 wicket victory with 4 overs to spare, and taking them to 7-0 for the season.
Now, this next award goes to the
All-rounder of the Season. This bloke was the whole package, an MVP if you will. He maintained a batting average of a tick over 50 as well as a bowling average of just over 25. He bowled match winning spells and was sometimes brutal with the bat. The winner is Roy himself,
Andrew Symonds!
The man with the golden ball, the
Bowler of the Season they will call him. It is not easy being a spinner in the APL, as this season showed us. Despite never taking that elusive 5fa, or even 4fa, this award goes to a man who consistently pitched in. He took 19 wickets at 20.5 a piece with an economy rate of just 4.2 rpo, at the same time he captained his side into the finals. Proving he's not too bad for an old bloke,
Shane Warne!
Now we've seen plenty of local talent this season and none more than this seasons
Rising Star award winner. The Rising Star award is awarded to someone who has flown under the radar until now, and has surprised us all this season. He was in a team that struggled early, but he kept a cool head and was one of the key factors in his side storming into the finals. With an impressive 15 wickets from 11 matches, the winner is
Mitchell Starc!
This seasons All-star match is sure to be a ripper and here are the XI's that have been selected.
Australians: Phillip Hughes, Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting*, Shaun Marsh, Adam Gilchrist?, Brad Hodge, Andrew Symonds, Mitchell Johnson, Clint McKay, Shane Warne, Nathan Bracken
All-stars: Jacques Kallis, Jonathan Trott, Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, MS Dhoni*?, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Graeme Swann, Dale Steyn, Muttiah Muralitharan, Zaheer Khan, Kemar Roach
Congratulations to all players.
It's not easy being a manager, and you all do very well. One man though, stands ahead of the pack. I didn't get to see much of him due to the TTPL closing, but he left a good impression. He has always been active around the thread, always positive, and always posting his line-up without a hassle. This seasons
Manager of the Season is
riz7khan12.
Now, a moment that left us all speechless, the
Spell of the Season award. Pure magic with the ball was shown on
that one unforgettable day. Melbourne were 7 from 7 with 3 runs needed, 3 wickets left, and a bucket full of balls to face when the ball was handed to batting superstar
Kevin Pietersen. Already having the wicket of Andrew Symonds under his belt, KP proceeded to take 3 wickets in 3 balls. His performance effectively ended Melbourne's winning streak, getting Sydney's season back on track and recording the first hat-trick in APL history.
Last but not least! The Batsman of the Season. He was pure dynamite, he could always be counted on to score a quick fire 40 or 50 odd, or even stay for the long haul if need be.
MS Dhoni was Perth's rock, he scored 576 runs at an average of 96, with an unbelievable strike rate of 110! He scored 2 centuries and consistently lead Perth from the front.
Well that concludes our awards night! What a night it has been. Yes, you were promised a preview of next season, so here goes. Hopefully you should all have logos, and kits! We will see the introduction of injuries, and fines! Weather will play a role, and my methods will change!
