Hello ladies and Gentleman and welcome back to the WACA here in Perth. We are about to embark on the first of the One Day International matches between the Australian's and the West Indies.

I am Mark Nicholas, and i am joined by Michael Slater and Brett Lee down here at ground level, and Slates, what a great series this is promising to be...

Yeah that's right Mark, Australia has just come off a great series against the Sri Lankan's here in Australia. We took you right through from the boxing day test matches, to the One Day series and even into 2 T20 matches in Sydney and recently in Melbourne to finish off what was a great competition between the two sides, and now we have the West Indians here for a crueling series. We start off here at the WACA ground here in Perth for the first 2 ODI matches, we then head to Manuka oval in Canberra for the 3rd ODI, and then off to the Sydney Cricket Ground, the newly developed Sydney Cricket Ground. And then off to the MCG for the last of the ODI matches before we finish off the West Indies series with a T20 contest up at the Gabba in Brisbane.

We are in for a wonderful series Mark, and if it's anything to go by with the Sri Lankan series, we are going to see some wonderful and entertaining cricket.

Thanks Slates, what a perfect day we have here for you here in Perth, the sun shining on this first ODI, the pitch is in great condition. It's a typical WACA pitch here, with plenty of bounce and carry through to the wicket keeper.

But before we get to that, let's have a look at these two line ups we have here for you this afternoon....

Now Slates, going by those 2 line ups is there much of a surprise to kick start this ODI series?

Well i don't think there is too much of a surprise. Certainly a few changes for the Australian's compared to the side that took on the Sri Lankan's just 2 weeks ago. I think it's a pretty strong Australian line up. It's good to see Brad Haddin brought back into the side and looking to open the batting. Lots of experience up the top of the order, with Haddin, Hussey, Watson and Clarke in the top 4 positions.
Callum Ferguson gets another opportunity after some good domestic form, but he will be looking to cement his spot in this senior side. Aaron Finch, Phil Hughes are co are all fighting for the same position on this side, but Ferguson has been given the nod.

For the West Indies, boy do they look strong in the batting department. Plenty of runs can come from that top 8 players with Smith and Gayle the two openers. The two Bravo brothers are going to be the difference between the two sides i believe, if the Bravo brothers, especially Dwayne can get on a role, then that will give the Indies every chance of winning these ODI matches.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have word coming through that the West Indies have won the toss and have elected to bat first here in the first ODI match at the WACA. So the story is set, and we are close to starting here in Perth. The West Indies have won the toss and are batting first here on this wonderful looking WACA pitch, we'll be right back

Welcome back to the WACA ground on this glorious Friday afternoon in Perth. Wonderful weather to bring to you the first One Day International with the Australian's taking on the West Indies.

The West Indies have won the toss earlier today and elected to bat first, which was the right choice with this pitch, it has plenty of bounce and will carry through to the wicket keeper throughout the whole days play.
Beautiful weather up above, as we'll reach the low 30's this afternoon, currently sitting on 26 here in Perth, as the players make their way out onto the field to start the play.

Devon Smith and Chris Gayle are the two opening batsman for the Windies this afternoon, and these two men need to see of the 2 new balls, and gain some momentum to give the West Indies the best possible chance of winning this match.
We all know that the key here for the Indies in Chris Gayle. I am a little surprised he is opening the batting this afternoon, he is known for his big hitting in the IPL at the end of an innings, coming in at number 5 or 6. But he has the opportunity to really build a innings and hopefully get support around him, and keep him there for the majority of the innings.

And joining the big hitting Gayle at the crease at the start of this innings is Devon Smith. Smith is a patient batsman, he will be looking to guide Gayle through, he will try and give Gayle most of the strike at the start of this innings. The balls will be new, and with 2 men only outside of the 30 meter circle to start the first 6 overs, Gayle will be looking for boundaries.

Smith's role today is to stay out in the middle and build a partnership with Gayle. Get the West Indies off to the best possible start.

With the two batsman out in the middle, checking out the pitch, here come the Australian's onto the field, led by captain Michael Clarke. Australia has gone with a little surprising team for the first One Day match, which includes, Callum Ferguson and Brad Haddin into the side. Michael Hussey has been named to open the batting, and like Gayle he is known to be more of a middle order/end of an innings type batsman.

The Aussies take their places in the field and it looks like James Pattison will take the new ball coming in from the members end or the Inverarity end here at the WACA

It's wonderful to see you back with a story, Roo. The quality is always right up there and this has been a wonderful start. Loved the Ashes story of yours and I hope this is as interesting.

It is really pleasing to see you back in this respective area of the forums Roo. I always rated your stories "back in the day" and I still do today. (:

I am eagerly awaiting Pattinson to extract some pace and bounce from this WACA track. Also, I am not too keen on Deven Smith opening the batting alongside Chris Gayle. Personally, I would have gone for the more attacking Andre Fletcher.
