Bangladesh Tour of Pakistan 2024

rain washed out the first session, ie 30ish overs. and then you don't really get 90 over test cricket days in pakistan anyway
Never understood why they don’t just complete the allotted overs by switching to a pink ball with floodlights on

That would kill the vibe.

There's something special watching batters sweating, losing concentration and getting nervous on the last phase of the session.

When the sun is setting, the light is fading and the umpires are calling their light meters.

Fielders are tired, bowlers are out of gas and the leg nerves of umpires have jammed.

The light is not good enough so the umpires deem it fit that pacers cannot be allowed to bowl anymore. The pacers take a sigh of relief as the umpire signs at the captain to bring on some spinners.

Captain looks at his spinner/s who either give a nods or turns away towards deep fine leg. Showing no interest to bowl after a long tiring 40 overs spell. The captain is forced to bring a part timer who knows nothing except to bowl gentle pies.

The captain of the batting side signals the no. 11 in the dugout to pad up. The tail ender nervously puts on the helmet that doesn't quite fit him. Still he believes in his defense in this dying hour where not one batter could barely see a 145+ screamer, let alone the night watchman. But he still believes.

The batter knows this will be the last over of the match. He has to survive. He watches the first ball carefully to see what enigma this part timer is. The second and third balls are gentle pies as well but the batter misses out on it.

Half way through the over. The captain signals with his tongue as the part timer remembers the last best trick of a spinner. He gentle rubs his fingers on his tongue as the saliva drips off his hand before he rubs it thoroughly on the ball.

The 4th ball is a good one that rips past the bat sharply as the part timer now looks at the batter with the eyes of a ghost of Murali.

The 5th ball is a loose one because the part timer forgot to tongue the ball indirectly through his fingers. Although the batter doesn't forget to pounce quickly on it and hits it over the part timer's head for a four.

It's time to deliver the last ball. The night watchman who was geared up, lifts and puts down his helmet first. He goes to the restroom quickly to relieve the pressure that was built during his nervous sitting and replay of his defense playing through in his mind in flawless motion.

The part-timer channels his inner Murali and doesn't forget to lick his fingers. In fact he does it twice just to make sure. By this time the dirt of the ground has made his way to his taste buds and beyond thanks to the wet ball. He gives it a hard rev as it hits that right spot where it turns sharply and out does the batter in Warne style. The furniture has been destroyed. Teammates in the dugout cannot believe it. But the part timer wakes up from his day dreaming and the umpires remind him that there is no time to bowl the last ball and the play is done for the day because of bad light.
