Your Cricket Bases for stumps?

I've just bought a GM 'Maxi' Cricket set (size 6), but the problem is it doesn't come with bases for the stumps and we often prefer to play at our local outdoor nets (which don't have holes for the stumps) instead of the bumpy ground at the park. Anyone know where I can buy some? London, UK is my location. I checked GM's site and they do size 6 sets that come with bases, so the size isn't the problem.

Also, why the hell do these sets always come with the bails in one piece?

Edit: It says only to use the weighted rubber ball that comes with the set: the bat isn't suitable for a real cricket ball, but what about something like this:

It has the weight, but not the hardness of a real ball. Should that be ok?

That ball will be fine unless your Shoaib Akhtar or something I reckon. Don't know about bases, but just look for a cheap set with a similar sized base.

Thanks. That park's grass area could do with being smoothed out; it's useless for football and cricket.

And no, I ain't Shoaib Akthar, far from it! :D

The set was a real bargain anyway, ?12 down from about ?24. Add on ?3 for a 'skills ball' and it's ?15 all in. It came with four stumps, one bail, one ball, one bat and even came with batting gloves, just a shame about the lack of bases. Another thing, when it comes to putting the stumps in the ground, what should you hit them in with? Obviously, the bat wouldn't be a great choice and as well as damaging the bat, that would also damage the tops of the stumps over time?

Use the handle of the bat, to knock the stumps in, not sure how you could do it. What you need is something like these allthough im not really sure what your budget is?

Absolutely, that'd be ideal but the problem would be in carrying it to and from the nets (no car, you see), whereas if I could get some bases for these stumps, everything could go neatly into the carry bag. The last set I got came with bases, it was a GM size 4, but as I said, there are sets available in size 6 that come with bases. They also come with six stumps and two bats, so will be a lot more expensive to buy. My last set didn't come with gloves though: it seems as though it's either gloves or bases.

I'm sure the ladies will be happy to know you're not like Shoaib Akhtar :p

Unless I can find a store that sells bases (a specialist cricket store), then I suppose my best bet is to find a size 6 set that has them and pick that up. It's so frustrating, these stumps are so much bigger than the ones from the old set. I think they're only about 4 inches off fullsize.
