Slogging Scotland fancy their chances

A Scottish side led by Preston Mommsen could be a tricky proposition for United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and beyond according to some observers.

The co-champions of the recent World Twenty20 Qualifier, this is a team that his high on quality and high on confidence. Mommsen himself transformed his game from that of a nurdling middle-order batsman to a hard-hitting, boundary-scoring middle-order batsman. He will likely bat himself at number three in the Scottish side, with the Aberdeen-born duo of Kyle Coetzer and Michael Leask batting above him. Their big-hitting pedigree is beyond question, and Leask has the added string to his bow of some cagey off-spin. Mommsen himself will likely also have to turn his arm over.

Michael Leask hits a very, very long ball.

Further down the order, Matt Cross will be hoping to find the boundaries, but will also be invaluable behind the stumps. His stumping of England's James Taylor in this year's World Cup was arguably the finest piece of fielding in the entire competition. The other Scottish stand-out at the World Cup was Josh Davey. He is a wicket-taker, but has also show his batting quality by opening the batting in ODIs with some success.

With five hard-hitting batsmen and a top-class fielding unit, this is a Scottish team that could go a long way.
