I am not looking to get a new pc I am going to wait for the next-gen pcs in late 2007 :hpraise . I only want my games to run smooth with no lag, Do you think buying a top-of-the-line card will help? but I could also buy 1gb memory what do you think? is a new motherboard neccessary? since they are so expensive I was not looking to get one. :help

I suggest you to get 6600GT. It will be a huge boost. Getting a high end card will be of no use because it's performence will be limited by your cpu. 2007 is a long way from now and by then AGP card may not be there. Make sure you have AGP 4x slot in your motherboard and a good quality power supply. If you have AGP 2x then you should go for fx 5200.

josha1210 you should be looking for fx 5200. at least it supports Shader model(SM) 2. Graphics with be little better than mx series.

Do you think a new cpu would help which one do u recommend I buy? I don't care about the price.

personally and most people would agree Id go with AMD its a better Gaming system then Intel but you have a intel board so I guess your stuck with intel.. not sure if you can even buy 2.1 ghz CPU anymore maybe 2nd hand

Got any links? what cpu should I get I want the best and nothing but. After I have brought a cpu then I will get a top-of-the-line card :onpc what do you think?

Well the problem is that you have celeron based motherboard. If you know what motherboard you have then we can know which cpu are compatible.

Getting cpu then graphics card is good. It depends how much you want to spent if your motherboard is outdated, which I think it is. Then you will have to buy motherboard and compatible cpu.AMD motherboard for AMD cpu and intel for intel cpu.

It depends on your needs, I am sure 6600GT will make you happy. Just know your motherboard details before buying anything.

Well Here are my specs

Presario 6207EA
? Intel Celeron 1.7GHz
? 632MB PC2100 DDR RAM, CPU 1696
? 40GB Ultra ATA/66 HDD
? 16X DVD CD-ROM
? 40X CD-RW
? 3.5" Diskette drive
? Integrated Intel graphics card Intel(r) 82845G/GL, up to 32MB Video Memory (shared with system memory), 4X AGP
? Integrated AC'97 Audio
? Integrated 10/100 Network Adapter
? Compaq Easy Access Internet Keyboard, Compaq Scroll Mouse
? Five drive bays (one open for expansion)
? Two open PCI slots (One PCI slot with modem installed), One open AGP slot
? Six USB ports (2 on front, 4 on rear), Serial RS232C port, Parallel port

What cpu do you think I need or anything else for that matter to make me pc best for gaming does'nt matter about the price. :help

I need some help. I don't know anything about graphic cards, so I might sound like a fool. I may buy a new computer in 6 months or so, but I want a good graphics card. I don't know if I should wait or buy it now. My budget is under ?60. Any recommendations?

Also, when I look on the internet for a card, eg. fx 5200, one shop says ?30 and another says ?60 even though they have same memory. What would be the difference?

One more question... what does VGA, DVI, TV out, TV tuner mean and how do they affect it? sorry for these silly questions.

VGA- normal video output, generally used for CRT monitors (the big fat ones)
DVI- digital video input, used for LCD monitors
TV Out- allows you to connect your card to your TV and get a picture on there
TV Tuner- allows you to watch TV on your PC

You won't be getting a good graphics card for ?60- although a low end one would run Cricket 2005 decently and be a big upgrade if you currently have integrated graphics. You may be able to get a 9600 Pro for that price, should be good up to 1024x768 at decent detail with Cricket 2005 but will really struggle with other new games, really depends what you want to play.

Unless all you're intending to play is Cricket 2005 and other non-graphics intensive games, I'd say wait and put the money towards something good, but if you are a 9600 Pro or similar will do you fine.

Hey everybody i have decided on the ATI 9800 XT..........any comments? I am going only for ATI.......any more suggestions

Saphire Radeon X800SE is a good choice. Runs doom on ultra settings, 1280x1024 res, AA x4 at around 40-60fps. Looks on the net for prices. AN 9800XT is a good card, but will soon be past its best. Look at the prices of the radeon x800 series.

Mine is AGP. ATI has stopped producing AGP X800 cards, but they are still out there on the net for sale. Search google.
