Frank Lampard has been ruled out for up to two weeks after damaging his elbow during the Premier League game against Wolves at the Molineux on Saturday. The 32-year-old picked up the injury in the latter stages of the match, and although he completed the full 90 minutes of 0-0 all draw, an x-ray later revealed the full extent of the damage.

A club spokesperson told chelseafc.com: "Frank has damaged his right elbow and will be out for up to two weeks."

News of Lampard's enforced spell on the sidelines comes as a major blow to Gianfranco Zola, who will be without Chelsea's best player for the upcoming Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Jack Rodwell, another potential replacement for Lampard, suffered a hamstring strain in the same match and will also be out for a week.

Gianfranco Zola may now call on John Obi Mikel, Chelsea new-boy Phil Jones, or Alex to partner Michael Essien in the centre of the Blues' midfield for Wednesday's 19:45 BST kick-off against Atletico Madrid.
