A substandard first innings for NT, but it would have been so much worse if not for a big late partnership between Tyran Liddiard (who scored his first FC 50) and Scott Boland. Michael Hogan was the best bowler for Hobart, but not only am I running out of images for him, but Cam Gannon produced a great debut performance too, including the wicket of Liddiard.

Hobart missed a chance to capitalise on the low total when nobody except Daniel Solway stood up. Solway did get 62 to continue his lovely form recently. Both Scott Boland and Hayden Kerr took four wickets, but the lack of penetration from their other bowlers was maybe concerning.

The first innings was lit up by two great performances. Opener Charlie Wakim lasted until the fall of the eighth wicket in compiling his first ton of the year, while all around him wickets were falling to a great day for Jason Behrendorff who took six of them. There was also a ton in Canberra's innings, but there was nothing average about the support cast. Headlined by Travis Dean's brilliant 124, five of the top seven batsmen scored over 49 as Canberra racked up a total of 440. Josh Hazlewood took another bag of wickets but his conceded figures looked worse than usual, while Wildermuth and Abbott were really given bloody noses.

Only two people from Perth's lineup passed fifty, but a lot of starts were made (Sean Abbott would likely have made it too if he ran out of partners) and one was Matt Wade who fell a bit short of the third century of the game. Despite this, Perth's main objective having been down 180 runs - bat time - was completed. Ben Dwarshuis led Canberra with four wickets.
