Brian Lara: The Greatest Test Batsman ever!

Donald Bradman has been there but the reason that Brian Lara, in my books is the greatest Test Cricketer ever is because his runs, his records, his milestones have came against the most lethal of bowling attacks in the world. In this generation, it has become a tradition for batsman to get frustrated fast and get out by playing a unreasonably bad shot, but I've seen this guys all three innings 501, 375 and now this 400 and it is very safe to say, he is the greatest test cricketer to live on the face of this earth. Congratulation Brian Lara, you deserved to reclaim your spot as the world record holder, I hope you break 400 runs barrier one day also.

PS: Waqar Younis has now retire, its very sad to see him go but one day everyone retires. He's been one of the most known posterboy bowler in Pakistan's history. I just saw in another thread, we're givin' props to guys career and some Indian pops up sayin' how he hates him, as they say, don't hate the playa', hate the game! Most of his memorable wicket specially lethal inswinging yorker bolds have came with India so I can see the reason why. India can never produce bowler of such calibur, I respected Kapil Dev but he's of the standards of Wasim Akram, they are up there. So don't hate anybody, dislike because he plays for a rival country but hate is a strong word my friend. Its more of an envy than hate for you guys.

Agreed. The Don is far superior to Lara. He played in much more challenging conditions. His avergae is almost 100!! he has more 200s than ne1 else.

Yup, can't go past the Don. He averaged a century just over every 2 innings.

souljah don't get carried over by emotion.Think logically.
Even comparing someone like Lara with Bradman will be a sheer disrespect to Bradman.
He reached a height no one else would be ever able to reach. He got 29 centuries ,including 2 tripple. He has 12 times got past 200.And he has done all this in 70 innings.Lara has taken more than 100 tests to do this.
Who told you that the bowlers in those days were not good. Also remember the uncovered pitches factor. The pitches were exposed to moisture all night. It wasn't all that easy.
Also remember the lean period in Lara's carrear. In Bradman's case there was never a bad phase.

bradman is the world's greatest batsman ... he cant just be said lower than a new man on the block... i mean those old days were really hard ... no good pitches ... good bowling ... etc and also no technically good help for the umpires

BRADMAN is the greatest ever

Lara is the greatest of the modern era ( Covered pitches )

Different sorts of batsman thou??

Attacking batsman? ( Gilchrist , botham , there are more so apologies!!)
Opener ( Boycott!!! , Gavaskar )
Worst?? Walsh , Chandra, Devon malcom :)

Ok guys, in making the comparison, I think it is fair to distinguish the era both men played. In that light, I would say that Bradman was the best in his era, while Lara is the best in the present era. The only way to get a head to head comparison, would be to have both Lara and Bradman playing together and since that's not possible, then it's really hard to say. Have you ever thought that if Lara was playing when bradman was, he would have had the same level of success? or if Bradman was playing now alongside Lara he would not have been so dominant? Its two very different era, two different sets of conditions, so its hard to say that one's better. In all fairness to Sir Don, his figures are by far the most enviable, and is talent speaks for itself, but have you ever wonder how no one else in the present era can be the same, dispite the fact that there are so many wonderful batsmen around? It's because things and time changed, the bowling has come of age and in that sense, Lara is the greatest batsman of the modern era, maybe we can say he's now, what the Don was then? What most people must realise about Lara is the pressure that he plays under. Its very difficult to perform under the conditions he faced, and that I think has nullified his ability somewhat. Had he been in a more consistent team, he would have been ever better.

lara is just not cosistent enough and his knocks dont help his team win.
