Build a gaming PC or buy one?

It'll probably be a tv not a specific computer monitor

Hi there everyone,

I need some advice on setting up a new computer for myself. The main purpose is gaming, but I also plan on running a few heavy applications like Adobe Photoshop CS5.

This is what I have in mind at the moment.

Code:
 - Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K - 3.4GHz (quad core) + Motherboard combo
 - Graphic Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti (zotac)
 - Monitor: Samsung S22A300B LED Monitor (22 inches/1920x1080 px.) [FULL HD]
 - Ram: DDR3 8GB (4x2)
 - Hard Disk: Seagate 1TB SATA
 - Cabinet: iBall Bullet
 - PSU: according to the needs
 - Speakers: iBall Booster (5.1)
 - DVD R/W

I plan to spend somewhat around Rs. 60,000/- i.e. about $1,350.

Any suggestions?

I've heard that the i7 isn't much better than the i5 in that range. The 2400k iirc. I suppose a solid state drive would be a bit out of your price range? Would speed the whole system up, but they're mighty expensive

I've pretty much made up my mind on the processor. The Core i7 2600k is a real beast.

I'd love to buy a solid state drive, but they shoot my budget by a considerable amount. You get a 1TB SATA HDD for about 3 grands, whereas one needs to shell out 5k for a 32GB solid state drive.

I'd be glad if you could tell me something about the PSU. How many watts should I go for? Also, is the Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti considerably better than the 550 one?

Yea I'd say the 560Ti is a decent amount better.

PSU, the most important thing is that you go for a well known brand. In terms of wattage, just see what your parts need really. There are calculators online

Pranav I think that is very close to what I have, i7 and 8gb RAM. Had no problems with the computer, it's super fast and plays every game I've tried in max settings.

Mind sharing the following specifications?

- Processor model number
- Motherboard
- Graphics Card
- PSU

I am yet to finalize the motherboard. I might as well check out the motherboard you have as you say you own a pretty similar machine to what I stated above.

how do I find all that out? lemme know and I'll paste it here ASAP

Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> System tab

Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Display tab

Use the Windows 7 snipping tool to take pictures of the two windows that appear and upload them here.

Cheers.

Your motherboard is custom made by Dell, so I doubt that would be of any help to me. That said, I plan to buy a pretty similar machine as yours. Just that I'll be buying the updated version of the same processor and a better graphics card.

haha the worst part is that I never use it. THought I'd be playing all these games but the most I ever do is watch movies on it. I do play some BFBC2 and company of heroes from time to time. Will probably play BF3 when it comes out

Sweet man, you'll be pleased. I haven't had any complaints.
