It should have been invalid if England was there, or if it is an ICC event. But it is an Canadian league between few associates. I feel it's completely valid.
One can play for a country if it is his nation of birth or if he played 4 years of professional cricket in that country.
Even VC allowed Morgan to play for Ireland in his league.
