Powell produced a dazzling display of pace bowling before Brendon McCullum played a fine knock of 103 to secure Guyana the Credit Suisse crown in the showpiece final with Antigua & Barbuda at Kensington Oval. Powell took 3-45 as the visitors were in the final over for 216 of the first innings. The only batsman to improve on that in a low-scoring affair was Pietersen, who made 57 in Pirates?s total of 216. Boucher was the player who let Pietersen off the hook, putting down a chance at deep midwicket when the batsman had made just 14. Pietersen profited from an early escape to make 57 from 82 balls, while Boucher having hit an unbeaten 35 off 57 deliveries in the semis, did likewise when Daren Powell won the lbw appeal against Pietersen. Boucher shared a seven-wicket stand of 89 from 142 balls with Vettori, who played definicly, making 41with only a boundary. He and Vettori made steady progress thereafter, mixing good running with the odd boundary. Pirates recovered from a poor start and Boucher hammered 45 off 77 balls as they make 200+.
In reply, McCullum took 66 balls for his third 50 runs. He struck ten fours and a sixes, four of them off Vettori, and he just reached his hundred with taking three in the 34th over. McCullum and AB, who hit 74 and an unbeaten 49 respectively, imposed their strength and experience by putting on 111 in 13 overs before the latter perished with the scores level. McCullum the only batsmen in the team to have made three centuries in this season's competition, passed numerous milestones in hammering 103. AB seemed intent on attacking when he came in, heaving Pietersen over midwicket for six, He needlessly hit Miller at long-on, leaving the Greats needing 62. McCullum shared a second-wicket stand of 165 with AB, although it was AB who played more aggressively, making 83 with ten fours and two six. McCullum, who is finishing the season by playing eight games in a two-week, made 510 this season with three centuries.
