Shame you guys got of to a loss. Symonds really played well with that good knock plus two wickets.

Superb presentation mate. Nice, simple, and good grammar = :clap

Love the "newspaper" style presentation.

A thrilling high scoring game. Shame you couldn't pull it off in the end.

Dorey out for five

67262.jpg

Tall order: Dorey speeds in to bowl

More bad news for the Warriors on the injury front, with Brett Dorey out for the next five days due after pulling a back muscle in the Warriors' Ford Ranger Cup clash with the Queensland Bulls. Dorey picked up just 1 wicket for 76 runs in his ten overs, but had a far better spell later in the match than his first three overs, in which he gave away 29 runs.

The Warriors go into tomorrow's Pura Cup match against Tasmania without Dorey and without skipper Marcus North, who is out with a broken leg, and is likely to miss the season. Dorey should be back for WA's Ford Ranger Cup match against the Bushrangers on the 30th October, providing all goes well.

Di Venuto ton puts Tigers in strong position

Michael Di Venuto pulls his way to 172

Battling the heat and the sun, Michael Di Venuto gave a strong 4 hour-long innings to score 172 runs in just 228 deliveries, to give his side a very strong lead going into day two of the first Pura Cup match of the season. Despite being bowled out for 351, the Tigers took two quick wickets to leave the Warriors reeling on 2/46 at stumps on day one. The Tigers were 3/75 before George Bailey came to the crease, and he and Di Venuto smashed a 129-run partnership to unsettle the West Australian bowlers. Despite such a great start, the Tigers lost their last five wickets for just 120 runs, with Steve Magoffin taking 3/70, and Brad Hogg and Sean Ervine taking 2 apiece.

WA opener David Bandy fell early, and Justin Langer fell four overs later, leaving a lot of pressure on Luke Pomersbach and Shaun Marsh, who have faced 52 deliveries for just 12 combined runs.

Double centuries help WA

Luke Pomersbach celebrates reaching his century

Despite finishing the first day in a pressure position, Luke Pomersbach and Shaun Marsh have piled on 221 runs for the third wicket to help pull their side out of trouble, and surpass Tasmania's first innings total. After a slow start, Pomersbach started firing away to amass 123 runs from 203 balls, before edging a Brendan Drew delivery through to Sean Clingeleffer. Shaun Marsh kept the attack alive, batting through two more partners before departing on 132. Marsh and Gilchrist put on 58 runs for the fifth wicket, to sit comfortably on 5/341 before the Warriors collapsed, losing their last five wickets for just 47 runs.

The Tigers went in to bat 37 runs behind, and dumped West Australian Scott Meuleman went third ball for no runs, after making ten runs in his first innings against his old state. Sean Clingeleffer was sent in as a night watchmen to accompany Tim Paine at the crease, and the two wicket-keepers piled on 55 runs before finishing the day 1/56.

Strong batting puts Tigers in commanding position

59083.jpg

Travis Birt forces one on the off side en route to his 96

Tasmanian wicketkeepers Tim Paine and Sean Clingeleffer have put on 153 runs overnight to help put their team in a commanding position. Clingeleffer was sent in as a night watchman on day two, at 1/1 after Sean Meuleman fell third ball. The Tigers went into stumps at 1/56, with Paine on 25 and Clingeleffer on 29. The duo wasted no time in adding to their overnight tally, with Paine's 50 coming in 67 deliveries, and Clingeleffer's coming in 74 deliveries. The two put on 153 runs before Clingeleffer was clean bowled by Brad Hogg on 79. Tim Paine fell two overs later on 74. Michael Di Venuto, who hit 172 runs in the first innings, put on a 104-run partnership with Travis Birt before falling on 43. Birt also had a 75-run partnership with George Bailey before departing on 96 runs after just 117 deliveries. The total could've been higher, if not for midday rain stopping play for 20 overs.

The West Australian bowlers had a hard time for most of the day, until spinner Brad Hogg got the breakthrough, taking both Paine's and Clingeleffer's wickets, which seemed to free up the two head pace bowlers, Ben Edmonson and Steve Magoffin, who both picked up two wickets apiece before the day's end. Mathew Inness, substitute for the injured Brett Dorey, didn't manage to take a wicket in his 16 overs.

Should be an interesting final day. If the WA bowlers can get some quick wickets tomorrow, there is a definite chance you could win this :)

Keep up the great work, mate :thumbs

Warriors come heart-breakingly close

Shaun Marsh cuts on his way to his second century for the match

Shaun Marsh and captain Adam Voges have put on a 211-run partnership for the fourth wicket to bring their side tantalisingly close to a first-off Pura Cup victory against the Tasmanian Tigers. Tasmania started the day on 6/356, but the West Australian bowlers managed to take 4/22 in just 9 overs to give themselves a very good chance of winning their first Pura Cup match of the season. In a final day dominated by the bowlers, 7 wickets were taken for 66 runs before lunch, with Western Australia's hopes sliding away after they were sitting on 3/37 when captain Adam Voges came to the crease. After taking a while to rebuild their innings, Voges and Marsh took to the Tasmanian bowlers, smashing 211 runs before Shaun Marsh departed on 112 runs, his second century of the match, after being caught behind after a good delivery by his namesake Dan Marsh. Two quick wickets by the Tigers, taking wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist on just 6, and captain Voges on 120, saw the Warriors' chances of victory slipping further and further away, before a quickfire 54-run partnership between Sean Ervine and Brad Hogg kept the Warriors hopes alive, needing 9 runs from the final four deliveries when Ervine departed for the pavilion. With the hopes of victory resting on the shoulders of bowlers Steve Magoffin and Ben Edmonson, Ben Hilfenhaus bowled four excellent deliveries, hoping to take Edmonson's wicket, but the striker did a great job at keeping his wicket, but was unable to score a run, and the match was drawn, the Warriors falling just 9 runs short of victory, the 7th all time closest draw in first-class history.

Shaun Marsh beat out Michael Di Venuto for the man of the match award, after scoring 132 runs in the first innings, and 112 in the second innings. Di Venuto scored 172 runs in his first innings, and managed 43 runs in his second innings. Other notable performers for the Warriors were Steve Magoffin and Ben Edmonson, who took 11 wickets between them for the match, and century-makers Luke Pomersbach and Adam Voges. Damien Wright took 6 wickets while George Bailey scored 65 and 40 for the Tigers.
