Claims of corrupt play raised in Pakistan media

Absolutely.
All these allegations are baseless.
I was just saying that when he knew that he wasn't fit,he shouldn't have played.
Having said that, only YK knew how bad the injury was and perhaps it wasn't as serious as we all thought it was.
Pakistan,no doubt played fair cricket and unfortunately weren't up to the mark in the semi-final.

That's the same thing with Daniel Vettori though, he was injured as well but he still played in the semi cos it was such a big game.

JOHANNESBURG: Umpires Simon Taufel (Australia) and Ian Gould (England) said ?sorry to Umar Akmal? after their sub-standard and biased umpiring in the Champions Trophy semifinal lead to Pakistan?s unexpected defeat against New Zealand on Saturday.

A source in the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed to ?The News? that heated arguments were exchanged between Pakistan coach Inrtikhab Alam and the umpires during a hearing conducted after the semifinal at Wanderers. Match referee Javagal Srinath called up Umar and Intikhab for a hearing after the match, over what umpires blamed the batsman for showing dissent over the lbw decision. Taufel ruled Umar lbw at a time when he had played the ball on to his pads. Umar?s fall at a crucial stage robbed Pakistan of a chance to post a big total.

The Pakistan camp defended Umar and was very critical of the umpiring standard during the match. Srinath repeated the slides in front of field umpires and later conducted a separate hearing with the umpires.

According to the sources, the match referee later cleared Umar of showing any dissent and conveyed that the umpire who had made the decision said ?sorry? to Umar for the wrong judgment.

That was not the only biased decision by the umpires who faltered on no less than four occasions to help New Zealand make it to the final. Grant Elliott, who went on to play a match-winning knock was let off twice during his stay at the wicket. Shahid Afridi almost got him when he was new at the crease. Rana Naveed had him plumb on a full toss when again he was ruled not out. Even Daniel Vettori got a lucky break off Saeed Ajmal.

The worst of all that the two field umpires were so strict on Pakistan bowlers that they ruled most of short pitched deliveries as wide ball and at the same time extended full luxury to New Zealand bowlers to hurl such deliveries.

It's always good to have a laugh in the morning :laugh

Srinath is soft match referee. Should have banned at least 5 players.

Aleem Dar will do Aussies in, in final. ;)

It doesn't look like it's going to stop.

Ali, PCB official berate umpire Taufel: Cricket Next

: Holding his "fishy decisions" responsible for Pakistan's defeat against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy semi-final, Basit Ali and a senior PCB official on Monday reviled Simon Taufel and demanded an inquiry into his alleged "sub-standard" umpiring.

Umar was given out when he had started to cane the Kiwi bowlers and then in the New Zealand innings some clear decisions went against Pakistan. There should be an inquiry as some fishy decisions were made," he said.

Muhammad Ali Shah, a member of the PCB Governing Council, entreated the Chairman Ejaz Butt to press for a ban on Taufel.

"His umpiring was awful in such a big match and it all went against Pakistan. The Board must ask the ICC to ban Taufel from all matches and if nothing else at least demand that he is not posted for Pakistan's matches in future," Shah said.

So would he happen to know the rules behind LBW's?

This part is exceedingly stupid!

King Cricket added 3 Minutes and 56 Seconds later...

Is this Shah or whatever out of his mind or what? Ban Taufel from all the matches? For God's sake man, he has won the "Best Umpire" award four times in a row, and is one of the greatest umpires to have ever graced cricket. It's only natural for people to make mistakes. Just one/two wrong decisions, and everyone has started to pounce on him. Pakistan lost, so just accept the reality and move on, people.

First Younis Khan, now ST- I have really got tired of these moronic hypocrites who are doing this.

Roflmao. You could get a less biased review from a 4-year old. :laugh

Seriously, these Pakistanis need to get over it. What a ridiculous article. Sounds like their massive egos all got deflated after they lost to NZ and now they are having a whinge about it.

Why is it when Pakistan win or lose a big match the word corruption starts getting thrown around.

Because Pakistan have a history of corruption.

LOL @ The Pakis asking for everybody to be banned when something goes against them, I don't remember seeing Ricky Ponting or James Sutherland asking for Aleem Dar to be banned for life when his atrocious umpiring cost us the Ashes in 2005, ditto Billy Bowden.

Pakis, Indians and Sri Lankans are the biggest whingers there are going around.

Even I don't see any sense in Simon Taufel's ban. He is one of my favorite umpires but to be honest, the umpiring standards are pathetic these days especially when you see Ian Gould and Steve Davis...

I'm just remembering a certain incident with Australia and a certain Asian team, regarding Mr Bucknor ;)

It was different. Bucknor and his partner, together made 13 wrong umpiring decisions in that match, and most came at crucial teams. I still remember the first innings when Andrew Symonds was given not out thrice despite him being clearly dismissed in all three cases. The highest number of umpiring mistakes in a test match in this decade as far as I'm concerned. I can still provide a chart of all that if you want it. And that was not the first time Mr Bucknor faltered in a high profile match, he has a long history of this, so yeah, most of us was of the opinion that if he can't take the pressure of these high profile matches, he shouldn't be standing in them, should he? Whereas here, it was just two/three decisions which went against the Pakistani team.

Anyway, let's not rake up old quarrels.

Nobody can even come to toe nail of Bucknor's legend.

^^ Agree with KC. There is difference between bad and worst umpiring. I dont see any team even India and Sri Lanka blaming umpire for their loss these days. But still something should be done about umpiring. When there is Technology, why it is not used? Bring referral system in ODI's.
