Commonwealth Bank Series

The same MCG were Australia chased down 292 last week?

What record is it? Highest ever run chase on a Friday or something?

hehe made me laugh when I read it :p

With Mahmood you have to admit though he still isn't convincing. Perhaps we need to open up with Freddie and Plunkett, and have Mahmood on with a slightly older ball. Maybe get him to bowl most of his spell in the middle and end overs? Because first up he is absolutely dreadful and then seems to pull it back later on.

Interestingly I do feel that Lewis isn't the answer, and that Jimmy has to come back in, so it's for one of Mahmood or Plunkett. Personally I think Plunkett as he offers that bit more with the bat, and is slightly tighter providing he cuts out the wides.

My gut feeling is that Hogg will bog us down and we'll struggle if we lose a couple of early wickets. Hopefully that's just the pessimist in me talking, it seems to have grown from watching close to 30 days of appaling cricket from England in the last 2 months :(

Yeah, I'd sooner Hodge at six or seven than Watson for that very reason.

Spot on should switch Watson to 4 or 5 cause hes very technical and the sort of player that needs time to get in. Hodge saved us at 5 so I would think he could do the same at 6 or 7 and he can hit the boundaries if needed.

Have full confidence in the bowling. Englands batting is not good.

yea, we hve to think that 252 is enough for us to win . :cheers mate

252 it is. Game on folks. 9-82.

I'm not quite sure about it, I mean we see so many times England being gifted with opportunities but have failed to grab hold of it. Also this is a big ground, despite it being a flat pitch boundaries will be hard to come by, I feel England need to score 4.5-5 rpo consistenly over the innings, if they only score about 4 an over till the 40th over, they will lose. Opening partnership is important, now is the time Mal Loye should fire, if he can get a 50, England are in with a real good chance.

lets hope Loye shows why he should be in the side. my moneys on him slog sweeping his way to 100 off 17 balls every ball being a slog sweep 6 ;)

The problem is that with 20 Overs of Powerplays, there aren't enough middle overs to get around. I like the idea of Flintoff for the second and third powerplays and then the end overs though. He never does enough with the new ball for me, whereas Plunkett and Co potentially could.

I'd expect Mahmood to sit out the WC if Anderson is fit, although it'll be interesting to see how we cope with two similar bowlers.

I agree that ideally Freddie should bowl 1st change, and that he doesn't necessarily need the new ball, but I wonder if for the next game they should try Mahmood coming on without the new ball in hand? Get Freddie in first up against fresh batsman, instead of serving them up a diet of Mahmood half-volleys.

Give Mahmood a similar 2-5 over spell 1st change, and then get Panesar and Colly in towards the end of the 2nd or 3rd powerplay and hope they keep it tight, pick up a wicket or two. If not turn back to Plunkers and/or Freddie. I suppose it's not really worth thinking about, as ideally Mahmood wouldn't be playing, and Anderson and Plunkett would take the new ball, swing it nicely, and come back later on, allowing Freddie to bowl maybe 3 seperate spells, and Monty, JD and Colly getting through 20-30 overs.

Right time to head downstairs, and settle down with a cuppa tea and the 2nd innings of this match.

Just on the bigger ground bit, I'd say that suits us, as players like Collingwood are a lot better at finding gaps in the field than they are at finding the boundaries.

Likewise, to win, England will have to treat this like the hardest thing they could possibly do. Give away no cheap wickets and fight for every run.

Should we have a vote on whether or not Loye will play the sweep again? :p
