Commonwealth Bank Series

It's depressing when a batsman with a first class average around 50 is discussed as a specialist bowler.

"failed in every innings bar 3" - keep in mind, the best batsman still 'fail' in 3 quarters of their innings.

What relevance does a FC average have when his averaging a lazy 29 as opener and apparently the team does better with him opening over a guy whose averaging close to 50 in this series and has a FC & Test average of over 50 anyway?

I was merely replying to Brad's statement that if you're not leading the runs as an ODI opening batsman then you're in trouble and using the fact that Watson has failed anyway in his performances at the top of the order after he expressed his opinion that Watson is the best option for opening batsman.

Watson averages in the low 20's in his last 20 odd matches with the ball.

Yea gilley has been disapointing. Only first couple of matchs has he been successful. Maybe if he conentrated more on his batting, instead of making comercials, he'd be a more competant batsmen. I kinda wish I could say that to his face.

We're in the business of writing people off after 8 ODI's opening the batting? For the record Hayden had passed 20 twice after 10 innings, with one 50 coming off 100 balls. Of the times Watson has opened he's been out mostly trying to up the run rate too early in his innings, that's just inexperience- he's also been scoring his runs at around a run a ball. It's a shame he got injured when he did or his opening spot would probably be cemented by now.

Meh it just seems lately that Hayden and Gilley are trying to be too flamboyant. A four along the carpet, is much safer and more classier than a six, and you can't get caught! Unless they can erradicate miss hits and always time the ball, unlikely that, they should only rarely hit them for sixes. Not like that are supermen that can always hit the ball over the fence on each shot. And now at the second final will they do the same mistakes? Though I admit I loved Haydens off and cover drives at the MCG. Those are the kind of shots we need from all batsmen in the one dayers...heck in any format lol

Well that can be pretty tough if they bowl outside off stump and put 50 fielders on the off side in the circle like that have been doing lately :mad

Hussey drives the ball through those fields lol, of course timing and placement needs to be there but heck this is the international scene, if they aint good enough, replace em lol

I say go the ding! :D

Ummm....sorry to interrupt this conversation but it is starting to rain in sydney....well at my home it is...

That's one very small and immobile cloud you have.

You mean the Telstra Dome in Melbourne? Have they ever played cricket at the Dome?

EDIT:

Damn it. The weather seems to getting worse then it was before....

Forecast for Sunday in Sydney Australia

Issued at 4:30 am EDT on Sunday 11 February 2007

Showers increasing, moderate to heavy at times. Chance of thunderstorms. Cloudy. Moderate northeast winds tending east to southeast and freshening.

Precis: Showers increasing.

City: Max: 23 Parramatta: Max: 25
Terrey Hills: Max: 23 Penrith: Max: 26
Liverpool: Max: 25 Richmond: Max: 26

Not so good for the 2nd final today....

By the way I just heard thunder outside my house. So there is a storm lurking around Sydney at the moment but it is weak...

EDIT: Okay there might be a change to the forecast later throughout the day according to my observation in sky in somewhere north east considering there is a patch of blue sky appearing which means the clouds look like it is breaking apart. This could be a good sign for the 2nd final for the cricket. Unless there more rain and chance of storms to develop.

Yep they played the 3 ICC SuperSeries One Dayers there.

Stuart Clark isn't an ODI bowler, as his 35 wickets at 31 and economy rate of 5.48 show. Completely the opposite to his test performances, where for me he is Australia's leading bowler at the moment (Just seen he's taken 8-58 against WA ).

I'd love to see Tait, he seems to enjoy bowling half volleys to our batsmen!

Exactly on the first part :)
Tait well don't you worry about him hes back and in full flight, when hes played you guys the nerves got the better of him I suspect. But because our selectors went and dropped him I can't confirm that point :noway

If open the batting with Watson you might as well play Katich. They both score relatively slowly and often undo much of Gilchrist's good work.

Did you even watch when Watson was opening? His SR for his first two 50s where over a 100, and his last 50 the final in the Champions trophy was slow because we were chasing a small total.
