Something that usually slips our mind at PlanetCricket are some of the lower profile Cricket games – but to keep you occupied while the World Cup isn’t on TV, here are some games you can play…

First is Cricket Challenge, released yesterday for the Wii’s WiiWare downloadable games service. Unfortunately it isn’t available in Australia (either yet, or ever) thanks to our classification system’s expense, but for those of you in the UK and the rest of Europe, 500 Nintendo Points gets you a game that looks like a street cricket game played on a small local club cricket ground. The marketing for the game describes it as:

[...] an arcade-style sports game that gives you a fun-filled experience while playing as a batsman in a game of cricket. Using the Wii Remote like a real cricket bat, you can swing and control the actions of a batsman to make him play strokes, hit boundaries, 6s and try a variety of shots. The game is set up in a playground amidst an urban background with buildings, apartments and a lush green outfield giving a casual feel to the game.

You can view a very short trailer for the game and a few screenshots at the Nintendo website.

In other news, “Ultimate Cricket 2011: World Cup Edition” released for several mobile devices, including a few Blackberrys (in the BlackBerry App World) and Nokias (via the OVI store). The game is free to those in India as a promotion for the World Cup, and around US$5 to those elsewhere.

Ultimate Cricket ?11 comes with striking visuals, 29 realistic shots, dynamic ball physics and the most complete gameplay on mobiles. Decide whether to play defensive or aggressive shots. Featuring a comprehensive player attribute system, a variety of game modes and challenging opponents – strategy, skill and shrewd moves are all you need to get closer to the coveted trophy.

Versions for other devices are upcoming with a developer’s rep active on the forums in the thread for the game. For those wanting a quick look at it, there’s a YouTube video showing off a few of the various features and some gameplay, which is well worth taking a look at.

And finally, while it released in December last year, Big Cup Cricket for the various iDevices is worth noting for being only 0.59GBP/AU$1.19/US$0.99 this weekend. You can view a trailer for the game here.
